The muscular bodyguard with a "criminal" face has been with Lionel Messi since he got off the team bus. This person escorted him onto the field, followed him into the tunnel after the match and to the bus.
As the match progressed, bodyguards walked along the sidelines closely following Messi's passes.
He made sure that fans did not get too close to Messi, preventing overzealous fans from approaching their idol or catching the jerseys that fans in the stands threw at the Inter Miami striker.
Inter Miami's decision to send a big man to protect Messi has been widely supported by fans. "Protect the best player of all time at all costs," one account commented.
"The bodyguard's eyes are darting back and forth. Messi is safe," another said. A fan commented: "Inter Miami are taking good care of the greatest" or "These guys aren't kidding about their greatest asset."
Before Messi's mid-July debut, Inter Miami revealed plans to beef up security and generate a level of attention not seen in the United States since owner David Beckham signed with the LA Galaxy in 2007.
Co-owner Jorge Mas said they are no strangers to ensuring Messi's safety because he and the Argentine team have traveled to Miami, USA, to train before flying to Doha, Qatar, for the 2022 World Cup. The businessman also said that Messi is protected not only on match days.
Since arriving in the US, Messi has been a sensation on and off the pitch. The veteran striker has delighted fans with 9 goals in 6 consecutive matches. Since the Argentine superstar has played, Inter Miami has won all the matches, advancing all the way to the 2023 Leagues Cup final.
Messi has a chance to lift his first Cup on American soil if Inter Miami beats Nashville in the final match on the morning of August 20. All of his activities with his wife and children, such as going out and shopping, also attract attention.
Messi is eager to win his first title with his new club. The superstar number 10 said: "It's a great title for me and the Inter Miami fans. The club always works hard.
They have invested a lot in development and are trying to build a strong team, capable of competing for major titles. If the club wins the Leagues Cup, it will be great."
After the League Cup final, Messi and Inter Miami will play Cincinnati in the US Open semifinals on August 24. The World Cup winner will make his MLS debut when Inter Miami visit the New York Red Bulls on August 26.
