My Duc Ward is a border area with Cambodia. This is also the locality with the largest Khmer and Chinese population in Ha Tien City, Kien Giang Province (accounting for over 50% of the population). In the period 2011-2015, My Duc was in a particularly difficult area and benefited from Program 135. Therefore, My Duc has received investment in many ethnic policy projects and works; in which, supporting investment in livelihood models has been effective, increasing income for people in border areas, creating a spillover effect in the community, contributing to reducing the poverty rate from over 5% in 2011 to 1.9% (end of 2015).

Life has gradually changed, the people have recognized the attention of the Party, the State, and the local government, actively participated in implementing emulation movements; at the same time, participated in activities to build increasingly innovative villages. Among these activities, Mr. Chau Chai, residing in Group 9, My Lo Quarter, My Duc Ward, is a prominent factor in mobilizing people in border areas to well implement the Party's guidelines, policies, and laws of the State, and pioneered in family economic development movements to set an example for households to follow.

As a son of the border region, with experience in escaping poverty, over the years, Mr. Chau Chai has always actively participated in propagating and mobilizing people in the border region to comply with and implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; at the same time, effectively promoting resources from ethnic programs, projects and policies that the Party and the State have invested in and supported to escape poverty and build increasingly innovative villages.

Mr. Chau Chai shared: Previously, his family was also a poor household, thanks to the government's attention to breeding cows for a sustainable livelihood; in addition, he also received preferential credit loans from the Social Policy Bank, his family did fruit trading, and in their free time, they worked for hire to earn extra income... thanks to that, his family escaped poverty. Family life gradually stabilized and developed, Mr. Chau Chai actively participated in social work. He was elected by the people as the Head of the People's Self-Management Group; he also participated in the Border Protection Group, Landmarks, Security Maintenance Group, Hamlets, and Villages launched by the Border Guard Station (DBP) of Ha Tien International Border Gate.

Acknowledging Mr. Chau Chai's contributions in participating in the Working Groups established by the Border Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Le Tuan Phong, Deputy Political Commissar , Ha Tien International Border Guard Station, said: Mr. Chau Chai is a very responsible person with the people in the border area. Whenever the unit or locality organizes any work, he actively participates. When participating in community activities or labor, his family has hoes, hoes, brooms, knives... or any tools that can serve the work, he is always willing to bring them to support. Not only that, he also takes care of every glass of water, loaf of bread to serve the people while building roads or houses for the poor... so he is very trusted and loved by the people.

In particular, Mr. Chau Chai can also speak Kinh, Chinese, and Khmer, so in the sessions to disseminate the law, launch the movement for the whole people to protect the border, landmarks, and prevent crime, the force took advantage of the role to invite him to support. Not only did he do well the work assigned by the Border Guard, but he also volunteered to participate in the work from the government and organizations.

Mr. Chau Chai was born and raised on this border, so he is very knowledgeable about the customs and beliefs of the Chinese and Khmer people. Over the years, he has helped the local government mobilize people to carry out emulation movements very smoothly and has always received high consensus from the people. Thanks to that, the border area is always firmly managed and protected…/.
