'Wolverine' Hugh Jackman splits from wife 13 years older than him after 27 years of marriage

On September 15, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness issued a joint statement on People Friday, saying their marriage had come to an end.

“We are so blessed to have shared nearly three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful and loving marriage.

Our journeys are now changing. We have decided to separate to pursue personal growth. Our family has always been, and will always be, our top priority. We move forward with this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.

We appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition. This is the only statement either of us will make,” the former couple shared.

Representatives for Jackman and Furness did not respond to requests for comment.

Hugh Jackman was born in 1968, 13 years younger than Deborra-Lee Furness. They first met on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli in 1995. At that time, Furness was a famous and sought-after actor, while Jackman was still unknown.

A year later, the couple got married. Their marriage faced many false rumors such as Jackman was a "gold digger" or married to hide his true gender. Despite all that, they have been together for the past 27 years.

Jackman and Furness have two adopted children together, Oscar Maximilian Jackman (23 years old) and Ava Eliot Jackman (18 years old), after years of trying to have children by conceiving naturally and through IVF.

They were once a model Hollywood couple because they did not end their marriage quickly like most other stars.

The news of the couple's breakup shocked and saddened many fans. However, those close to them thought otherwise.

A Broadway insider told Page Six that Jackman and Furness' split has been a long time coming, and friends and family have known about it.

The two have apparently been having problems for a while, possibly before Jackman returns to Broadway in February 2022 for The Music Man , according to the source.

“Deb hasn't been to many rehearsals and has even been spotted sleeping during some performances,” the source said.

This person added that there was no third person involved, but they simply became roommates. Those close to them knew the breakup was just a matter of time.

A few days before announcing their split (September 12), Deborra-Lee Furness was seen walking on the streets of New York (USA). The Australian actress looked cheerful and radiant, but was not wearing her wedding ring.

However, at that time, no one thought of emotional problems because the two stars did not always carry love tokens.
