At 5:00 a.m. on May 7, Ha My (living in Moscow) left her apartment building when the sky was still dark.

Crossing the quiet street, the Vietnamese girl boarded the metro train from the city outskirts towards Red Square to watch the rehearsal of the military parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2025).

"It's been a long time since I woke up this early. I wanted to arrive early to see the Vietnam People's Army delegation with my own eyes, meet the soldiers as well as overseas Vietnamese in Russia," Ha My shared.

From 6am, in the areas near Red Square, Ha My saw hundreds of Vietnamese people present. Some people were excitedly waving red flags with yellow stars and Russian flags waiting for the official rehearsal to start at 10am. From early morning, security was tightened.

Among the crowd, some young men wearing the familiar green pith helmet of Vietnam and the canoe-style helmet of the Soviet Red Army sang together songs of the two countries.

According to Ha My, in recent days, overseas Vietnamese and international students in Russia have posted statuses calling on people to join in cheering at the rehearsal. Ha My is currently the owner of 3 beverage shops in Moscow, and she has also given away more than 100 Vietnamese and Russian flags for free to overseas Vietnamese.

"Many people have stopped by my store to receive the flags, some even coming from far away places. The flag distribution comes from national pride and love for the homeland when the Vietnam People's Army participated in the parade on Red Square for the first time," Ha My shared.

Normally, her three stores are open from 10am to 10pm. However, on the day of the rehearsal, Ha My decided to give all employees the morning off and delay the opening time to 1pm.

On May 7, despite her busy school work, Ngoc Lan - from Yen Bai , a final year student at Moscow State University of Management - still went early in the morning to watch the rehearsal.

The female student was moved when witnessing overseas Vietnamese in Russia singing songs praising President Ho Chi Minh , expressing patriotism and together creating a brilliant red color in Red Square.

During the previous training session of the Vietnamese army, Ngoc Lan had the opportunity to interact, chat and take photos with the Vietnamese delegation. She was especially impressed with the serious, meticulous but still close and friendly manner of each soldier. Attentively following each majestic and powerful step of the army, the girl from Yen Bai felt a strong sense of pride.

"I was moved when I heard songs expressing the patriotism of Vietnamese people in Russia. The space to wait for the soldiers was very cramped but everyone was happy, there was no jostling or pushing," Ngoc Lan confided.

According to Dan Tri reporters , during the preliminary rehearsal that took place earlier, the soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army received support and encouragement from hundreds of overseas Vietnamese. They had been waiting for 5-6 hours in the cold weather in Moscow.

When the soldiers walked on the road next to Red Square, long lines of overseas Vietnamese stood on both sides and sang the National Anthem together , "As if Uncle Ho was here on the day of great victory..." The heroic sound made the atmosphere sacred, emotional and expressed the patriotic spirit of every Vietnamese person.

News channel   Russia Today quoted Mr. Yury Ushakov - assistant to Russian President Putin - saying that leaders of 29 countries will attend the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over fascism in World War II.

According to Mr. Ushakov, military forces from 13 countries will participate in the parade on Red Square, including the delegation of the Vietnam People's Army. In addition, veterans from many other countries, including: Armenia, Israel, Mongolia... are also expected to attend the parade.

The parade in Red Square is expected to feature many weapons such as T-34 tanks, modern systems such as Yars strategic missiles, S-400 air defense systems, Tiger-M armored vehicles, Malva and Giatsint self-propelled guns, and drones that play an important role in Russia's military campaign against Ukraine.
