On the evening of November 24, the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City announced that following the urgent direction of the Ministry of Health , the unit has urgently supported the two provinces of Gia Lai and Lam Dong in disease prevention after the flood, ensuring public health safety and limiting the risk of disease outbreaks.
The Board of Directors of the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City has directed its affiliated units to prepare human resources, materials, equipment, and expertise, and establish working groups to carry out the tasks.
The working delegation of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City included Mr. Nguyen Vu Trung - Director - as head of the delegation to Gia Lai province, and Mr. Nguyen Vu Thuong - Deputy Director - as head of the working delegation to Lam Dong province.
Under the direction of the Ministry of Health, the core task of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City is to provide professional and technical support to Gia Lai and Lam Dong provinces in disease prevention after floods.
Prevent major epidemics from breaking out, paying special attention to high-risk diseases such as: diarrhea and water-borne diseases, dengue fever, flu and respiratory diseases, skin and eye diseases, diseases that easily break out in polluted environments after floods.
Previously, on the afternoon of November 23, two working delegations from the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City had a working session with leaders of the Department of Health of Gia Lai and Lam Dong provinces.
Through the report on post-flood damage and disease situation in Gia Lai and Lam Dong, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City assessed that the risk of post-flood infectious disease outbreaks is very high, including diarrhea, dengue fever, measles, hand, foot and mouth disease, dermatological diseases and respiratory diseases. The work of assessing, forecasting epidemics and monitoring vectors in the locality is still limited.
In Gia Lai province alone, the Tuberculosis Hospital, Quy Nhon Lung Hospital and Quy Nhon Mental Hospital are still flooded. In Lam Dong province, the water is receding slowly, and the supply of medicine and medical supplies is not yet guaranteed.
In addition, localities proposed to be supported in training human resources in disease assessment and forecasting, vector monitoring; providing Cloramin B 250mg for post-flood disinfection, chemicals to kill mosquitoes and insects, and medicine to treat eye pain.
On November 24, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City has urgently prepared expertise, equipment, many shipments of goods, medical supplies, disinfectants and necessities to share with people in flooded areas. The boxes of goods were classified, labeled and urgently transported by the institute's staff and officials.
According to the plan on November 25, leaders of the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City and the institute's working group will visit heavily flooded areas of the localities to provide technical and professional support and donate necessities, hygiene and disinfectant products.
At the same time, we are ready to increase our forces, support testing, epidemiological surveillance, risk assessment, disease prevention communication and closely coordinate with the local health system to ensure that no outbreaks or large-scale epidemics occur.
