Former President Tran Duc Luong: A dedicated, exemplary leader

Although he has passed away, the great contributions and marks that formerPresident Tran Duc Luong left behind will forever be the foundation for generations of Party and State leaders, cadres and party members to inherit and develop, continuing to make the country increasingly prosperous and strong.

A lifetime for the people, for the country

On the morning of May 25, the memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong was solemnly held at the National Funeral House ( Hanoi ). The ceremony was attended by General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man. Former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former President Truong Tan Sang, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and many other leaders and former leaders of the Party and State also attended the memorial service. After the memorial service, the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong was brought back to his hometown - Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province for burial. Previously, on May 24, Party and State leaders, former leaders of the Party and State, and a large number of cadres, soldiers, and people attended the memorial service, respectfully remembering and expressing their infinite sorrow for the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong.

Writing in the condolence book for former President Tran Duc Luong, General Secretary To Lam affirmed: “We deeply mourn the passing of comrade Tran Duc Luong - a staunch Communist Party member, a devoted and exemplary leader, an outstanding son of the heroic Quang Ngai homeland with a rich revolutionary tradition. Comrade Tran Duc Luong devoted his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. In all his positions, he always demonstrated steadfast political will, pure moral qualities, a scientific and dedicated working method; a simple, modest and friendly lifestyle... respected by comrades, brothers, friends and the people”.

President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also left words of condolence for comrade Tran Duc Luong, affirming the great contributions and strategic vision of the former President. Comrade Tran Duc Luong's life of work and dedication is a shining example for cadres, soldiers and people to follow.

Representing cadres, party members and ethnic people of Gia Lai province, the delegation led by Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Luong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee visited former President Tran Duc Luong and expressed condolences to his family. Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ngoc Luong also wrote in the condolence book lines expressing his infinite sorrow at the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong - a person who made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Not only the people in the country, international friends and the Vietnamese community abroad also expressed their emotions at the passing of comrade Tran Duc Luong. At embassies, international friends respectfully offered incense to commemorate comrade Tran Duc Luong's important contributions to diplomatic activities with other countries while in office.

In the condolence book, Chinese Ambassador to Algeria Dong Guangli wrote: “President Tran Duc Luong made many important contributions to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and China. In this moment of sorrow, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and the Vietnamese people.”

Gia Lai people remember former President

These days, along with the whole country, the people of Gia Lai province also turned to the capital Hanoi to remember and bid farewell to former President Tran Duc Luong. A large number of people watched the funeral, memorial service and burial which were broadcast live on mass media channels. Witnessing the car carrying the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong leaving the funeral home, passing through his private home and the streets of Hanoi before going to Noi Bai International Airport for burial in his hometown, many people could not hold back their emotions.

Mr. Do Hoa - Party Cell Secretary and Head of Residential Group 5 (Yen Do Ward, Pleiku City) confided: "In recent days, I have been following information related to the funeral, memorial service and burial of former President Tran Duc Luong on newspapers and radio.

Along with the people of the whole country, I feel deeply sorry for the passing of comrade. Throughout his life, comrade Tran Duc Luong demonstrated the role of a high-ranking leader in implementing major, strategic decisions that brought benefits to the people and the country.

Through articles and reports, I feel people's affection for the former President, a talented person with strategic vision but also very close and simple.

In the memory of Mr. Nguyen Quang Hien - former Deputy Director of Gia Lai Electricity Company, former President Tran Duc Luong had a younger brother, Mr. Nguyen Duc Danh, who used to be a cashier at the unit. "Like his brother, Mr. Danh is very gentle, honest, and simple. As for former President Tran Duc Luong, through his visits and work in Gia Lai province and through the mass media, I was impressed by his simple and approachable demeanor.

I am also very impressed with his directions and decisions on key sectors such as minerals and geology, creating the "backbone" for the development of the country's economy. In particular, with the Vietnam Electricity industry, he has also contributed a lot in important decisions, creating the foundation for the synchronous development of power sources and transmission grids across the country," said Mr. Hien.

Journalist Hoang Dinh Tien, former reporter of Vietnam News Agency, Gia Lai Branch, was deeply impressed with the contributions of former President Tran Duc Luong on the foreign affairs front.

Journalist Hoang Dinh Tien shared: “During his time as President, Comrade Tran Duc Luong has done a very good job in foreign affairs.
