Images from a short clip showing the scene of Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal suddenly leaking water on the afternoon of May 7 spread on social networks.
Heavy rain, billion-dong train station leaks water
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on May 8, a representative of the T3 Terminal Construction Project Management Board confirmed that the heavy rain on the afternoon of May 7 caused rainwater to leak from the glass roof onto the floor of the departure waiting area.
The unexpected incident happened at a time when many passengers were waiting to check in, causing a "mild chaos". Cleaning staff were immediately mobilized to use buckets and brooms to clean and sweep away the water.
Currently, Terminal T3 only serves two domestic routes of Vietnam Airlines : Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City - Van Don.
The water leak right in the middle of the newly inaugurated terminal while waiting to check in for the plane and the scene of staff busily using buckets, basins, and rags to clean it up made many passengers surprised and somewhat disappointed.
Many people also questioned the quality and completion of the 11,000 billion VND project. One customer said it was hard to believe that water was dripping onto the floor after a heavy rain.
Not only does this incident affect the passenger experience, it also damages the image of an important infrastructure project that has just been put into operation.
High roof temperature, glue is leaking due to hot sun
According to the Project Management Board, the cause of the leak was due to a leak in the roof glass adhesive. On the day of the incident, Ho Chi Minh City was experiencing intense heat, with temperatures in the station roof area reaching 70°C, affecting the adhesiveness of the adhesive, making it easy for rainwater to leak through the gaps.
In addition, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule, resulting in some items not being fully tested.
However, the management representative emphasized that this incident "cannot (be considered) to reflect the overall quality of the entire project".
Fix in 1 - 2 days
On May 8, the repair work was deployed. The repair is expected to be completed within the next 1-2 days. In addition, some feedback about the rough and unfinished wall tiles was also recorded by the management board.
A representative of the Tan Son Nhat T3 Terminal Project Management Board said that many areas of the terminal are still in the process of completion, and some brick locations have not been polished or installed yet.
Inaugurated on April 19, Terminal T3 is expected to reduce the load on Tan Son Nhat Airport and improve domestic operations. However, the incidents that have occurred show that the project still needs more time to complete synchronously.
