First held in 2008, the Vietnam Festival in Japan has become a major cultural exchange event between Vietnam and Japan. This is a diverse exchange forum in many fields such as culture, economy , tourism, human resources, etc., thereby contributing to deepening the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
Taking on the role of artistic director of the program “Vietnam-Japan Friendship”, Meritorious Artist Tran Thanh Hien, Director of Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, said he was extremely moved and proud when the theatre was represented to perform at the Vietnam Festival in Japan, contributing to enhancing artistic exchange, promoting traditional Vietnamese art in general, and traditional puppetry in particular, to international friends.

According to Meritorious Artist Tran Thanh Hien, in recent times, Vietnamese puppetry has become an attractive tourism product attracting a large number of international visitors. The Director of Thang Long Puppetry Theatre hopes that through this art program, the beauty of traditional art, especially Vietnamese puppetry, will continue to be spread to Japanese tourists, thereby attracting more Japanese tourists to Vietnam and the capital Hanoi.
The art program "Vietnam-Japan Friendship" is structured in two parts:

Part II is a comprehensive folk music and dance program lasting about 50 minutes, with special performances such as: Vietnam brocade (combining puppetry and monochord); Spring comes - Birds bring good news (T'rung, Krongput ensemble); Red ban flowers, Spring festival (puppetry); Chau Van singing and dancing of the Upper Mountain Girl ...
The performances in the program are staged in a modern style but still honor the cultural values of Vietnam, demonstrating the subtle blend of traditional puppetry and Vietnamese folk music.
