According to expedition company Seven Summit Treks, the man reached the 8,849m peak, the highest in the world , via the traditional route on the southeastern slope, leading a team of 22 Indian soldiers and 27 Sherpas - indigenous climbers from the valleys surrounding Mount Everest.

The organizers said Kami Rita has long been seen as a global icon associated with Mount Everest.

Since his first summit in 1994, he has made the trek almost every year, except for a three-year hiatus when the route was closed for unforeseen reasons.

According to the Nepal Tourism Ministry, this spring alone, the country issued 468 permits for people to climb Everest, attracting more than 500 climbers and guides to the summit.

In addition, the authority has issued a total of more than 1,100 climbing permits for other mountains, generating more than $5 million in royalties for the country that is home to eight of the world's 14 highest peaks and whose economy relies heavily on adventure tourism.

At the same time, another Nepalese climber, Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa, also attracted attention when he became the first person in history to climb Mount Everest four times in just 15 days.

This year’s climbing season has also seen at least two deaths – a Filipino and an Indian – at high camp, but officials say it is one of the lowest fatality seasons in recent years.

Mr Kami Rita has now moved back to the lower camps and there is no confirmation on whether he will continue for the 32nd time this year.

Speaking after his 30th climb last year, he shared: “I am happy about the record, but I am happier that my climbs have contributed to making Nepal known to the world.”./.
