Liberal, luxurious

The Mediterranean design style, whose full name is Mediterranean Revival, originated in European countries located on the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

With its emphasis on open spaces and liberal architectural lines in both the exterior and interior, this design trend is suitable for airy, street-front houses or coastal villas or large houses.

However, the clever application of Mediterranean design in high-end apartments and city center houses, combined with typical colors, still brings a perfect, luxurious space.

Owning a 65m2 apartment, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Hung, Hue City said: “Both my husband and I wanted a cool, airy space in the summer, airy but still cozy in the winter, so we decided to choose the Mediterranean style. With its liberal characteristics, just adding a few highlights to the rooms will create a fresh, creative living space.”

“I chose the combination of earthy orange and beige as the main color tones for the house because this color scheme can be harmoniously combined to make the space cozy. In the living room, there is an arched door facing the outside to welcome the sunlight, helping the air in the house to always be airy,” Mr. Hung shared.

In addition, the arched design is considered a characteristic of the Mediterranean style, the curves and rounded corners create a sense of relaxation, comfort and harmony in all spaces, increasing the flexibility and luxury of the house.

Sound of nature

In modern life, people tend to look for original things, close to nature. With an architectural style that is likened to "the call from the ocean", the Mediterranean style has emerged as a necessity in many countries and Vietnam is one of them. When designing interiors in this style, nature is considered the most important factor to bring out the characteristics of the sunny and windy Mediterranean region.

Carrying the fresh sound of nature, the common colors in this style have cheerful and clear shades such as the blue of the sky and the ocean, the brown of terracotta, the green of olive, the purple of lavender, the light yellow of the sun and the white of the sand... All of the above colors, when skillfully combined, will create an overall space that is liberal, cool, and equally impressive.

In addition to elements related to nature, natural materials are also used thoroughly in houses decorated in Mediterranean style. Materials such as marble, mosaic tiles, iron, ceramics and especially wood, bamboo, rattan... are included in this design.

Mediterranean style interior decoration is often not too elaborate but tends towards simple, neat, rustic and natural beauty. Items in Mediterranean style apartments are often highly applicable, easy to use or simply serve the aesthetic purpose for display.

According to architect Le Van Thinh, Hue City, in addition to the structure, color and interior with a natural feel, Mediterranean-style houses often have gardens with many trees, wide corridors with miniature landscapes and tables and chairs for drinking water, large windows to welcome natural light to create an airy, bright space.
