"After years of collecting smiles/Buying fun, I finally get a 'laugh'." That is the humorous "confession" of writer Hoang Thieu Phu in the Collection of Jokes (Tre Publishing House) - a "veteran" with a "reputation" in the Vietnamese comedy world.

Since 1984, he appeared on the literary scene and immediately created a certain buzz because of his profound knowledge. It is also a current issue that needs to be criticized with a "phased" and humorous perspective like many others, but he is also attractive with a thorough understanding of the problem being raised.

Writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Phan has a harsh but very humorous face.

Before entering the village of laughter, writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Phan was a medical student, participating in the student struggle movement in the temporarily occupied urban area, then he went to the war zone in Hue to work for the Liberation Flag Newspaper; then after 1975, for decades he "specialized" in comedy skits. Looking at his face, both austere and "stingy" with that smile, readers would not expect that person to be so humorous and funny.

"It turns out that in this case, you cannot judge a book by its cover. The proof is that the short story "Laughing at You" really attracts readers because of its diverse topics and writing style. When reading it, we will burst into laughter and love life more," commented poet Le Minh Quoc.

Talking about his family - relatives of musician Hoang Thi Tho, in the story "Memories of a night in the mountains " written on Vanvn.vn ( Vietnam Writers Association ), writer Hoang Phu Ngoc Phan recounted when he met musician Tran Hoan, who was then the leader, that: "I also told the truth that my nephew called musician Hoang Thi Tho "grandfather". Tran Hoan happily asked about many other relatives. From then on, I learned that between him and the Hoang Bich Khe family, we have a relationship of paternal and maternal relatives".

Poet Le Minh Quoc said: "In Hoang Thieu Phu, in my opinion, the attraction is still the connection with stories from 'once upon a time' to the present day in a very 'dialectical' way. Looking at his works such as the Collection of Jokes - Hoang Thieu Phu (Tre Publishing House), we are surprised to know that his 'assets' have been 'collected' over the past decades, including two volumes with nearly 1,000 printed pages. His writing ability is also admirable. I love him very much because when I was young, the writer had many memories with me."
