Best-selling Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami has won Spain's Princess of Asturias Literary Prize 2023.
The 50,000-euro ($52,600) literature prize is one of eight prizes in the Princess of Asturias Prize, which covers arts, media, science and other fields and is awarded annually.
The works of writer Haruki Murakami have been translated into more than 40 languages and sold millions of copies. The jury highlighted that his work expresses some of the great themes and conflicts of our time, such as “loneliness, existential uncertainty, dehumanization in big cities and terrorism”.
Additionally, the jury praised writer Haruki Murakami's ability to engage multiple generations through different genres, describing him as “one of the great long-distance runners of contemporary literature.”
