On the evening of August 12, the professional MMA event Lion Championship 08 took place at Tay Ho Stadium, Hanoi .
Pham Van Nam (blue) successfully defended his championship belt.
The most anticipated match is the competition between the reigning 56kg champion Pham Van Nam and challenger Dinh Van Huong.
In the 2022 season, Pham Van Nam created a 3-match winning streak by defeating opponents Vo Thanh Tung, Pham Ngoc Canh and Do Huy Hoang to become the first champion of Vietnamese MMA.
Meanwhile, Dinh Van Huong was the 2016 Asian Sanshou champion and the 30th SEA Games bronze medalist in the Philippines.
Van Huong had two wins in the 2022 season before taking a break due to a hand injury.
In the first round, Van Huong continuously moved, creating distance with his opponent with kicks.
While Van Nam also actively approached, his wrestling situations did not bring much effectiveness.
In the second round, from a counterattack, Van Nam successfully knocked down his opponent and gained control.
However, Van Huong escaped and counterattacked with consecutive punches.
In the beginning of the third round, Van Nam had an unsuccessful leg break attempt, then the match was maintained in the half-guard position before Van Nam successfully controlled the back and ended the match with a rear naked choke.
With this victory, Van Nam successfully defended his 56kg championship belt. The title match was also chosen as "Fight of the Night".

Men's 56kg: Phan Thanh Tung won by submission over Dang Van Quy.
Women's 52kg: Ho Thi Ngoc Bich won by submission over Do Thi Ngoc Han.
Men's 56kg: Tran Trong Kim defeated Pham Ba Hoi by submission.
Women's 56kg: Bianka Balajti won by submission over Nguyen Thi Uyen Nhi.
Men's 70kg class: Ban Van Hoang knocked out Nguyen Tung Lam.
Men's 60kg: Robson De Oliveira Soares won by submission Huy Hoang.
Men's 60kg: Le Van Tuan knocked out Duong Thanh Hung.
Men's 56kg belt defense: Van Nam submission Van Nam.
