Jamie Cureton, the 50-year-old legend, achieved an unprecedented feat in the history of English football. |
At the age of 50, the former Premier League striker became the first player in history to score in all 10 divisions of English football.
Cureton’s incredible journey began in 1994, when the 19-year-old scored just 13 seconds after coming on as Norwich played Chelsea in the Premier League. More than three decades later, he is still at it, this time for Kings Park Rangers, who play in the Eastern Counties Football League, the 10th tier, the lowest level of English football.
On 25 October, Cureton scored in a 4-1 win over Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers, completing a goalscoring collection spanning 32 years, 23 clubs and over 1,000 games. He had previously been a player-manager at Cambridge City (ranked 7), but had to leave due to poor results, and then wrote history in the most unexpected place.
Speaking to the BBC after the historic moment, Cureton said: “Whether it was at Wembley or any other small stadium, I would celebrate like that. It feels amazing. I love scoring goals, and every goal is as special as the first.”
At 50, Jamie Cureton still keeps running, keeps scoring, and above all, keeps loving football. A true fairy tale in modern times, where passion is stronger than time.
