Heavy rain causes landslides in many mountainous areas of Da Nang

DNO - On the afternoon of October 28, a hill in Ngoc Giac village, Tra Tan commune suddenly collapsed, causing traffic disruption on National Highway 40B.

This hill next to National Highway 40B through Ngoc Giac village (near the intersection to Tra Giap commune), suddenly collapsed at around 2:30 p.m. on October 28 after heavy rain.

Ms. Ng., a witness at the time of the landslide, said the incident happened quite suddenly. In just a short time, almost an entire hill collapsed with a loud crash. “At that time, everyone was so panicked that they quickly shouted to warn. Many witnesses could not help but shiver,” Ms. Ng. shared.

After the incident, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lai, Secretary of the Tra Tan Commune Party Committee, was present at the scene to inspect.

According to information from the People's Committee of Tra Tan commune, the landslide did not cause any human casualties; initially, a nearby resident's kitchen was buried.

The landslide caused rocks and soil to slide down and floodwaters to flow across Highway 40B, cutting off traffic. (XUAN SON - ALANG NGUOC)

According to Mr. Le Thanh Hai, Commander of the Tra Tan Commune Military Command, many sections of the old Tra Giac route are currently seriously eroded.

In Ngoc Giac village, 11 households suffered landslides, completely sweeping away their houses. All households in the danger zone were promptly evacuated to safety, with no human casualties.

In In Ngoc Tu village, heavy rain and floods continued to cause three major landslides, directly threatening people's lives. The commune government mobilized forces to support the relocation of property and set up temporary shelters for people. (LAM KHUÊ - NGUYEN HÒE)

* In Phuoc Chanh commune , according to a quick report from the commune People's Committee, there were more than 15 landslides on the DH1 route connecting Phuoc Nang - Phuoc Chanh, with an estimated volume of buried rock and soil of more than 10,000m³, making it impossible for vehicles to access the commune by road.

Currently, 4 out of 7 villages of the commune including village 4, village 5, Phuoc Cong 1 and Phuoc Cong 2 are completely isolated by floods.

Phuoc Chanh Commune People's Committee said that on October 26, the locality mobilized forces to open routes DH1, DH3, DH5 to Phuoc Kim, Phuoc Loc (old). However, due to prolonged heavy rain, landslides continued to bury the road surface. (SUCCESSFUL)

* According to preliminary statistics of the People's Committee of Que Phuoc commune , by the morning of October 28, the whole commune had 10 houses affected by landslides, concentrated in the villages of Xuan Hoa (2 houses), Khanh Binh (3 houses) and Dui Chieng (5 houses).

The amount of landslides is estimated at about 2,000m³, flooding into houses, damaging roofs, brick walls, and burying many belongings.

Ms. Tao Thi To Diem, Chairwoman of Que Phuoc Commune People's Committee, informed that the commune government mobilized shock forces, militia, police, and youth to be on duty at key points to support people in evacuating and ensuring their safety.

“The locality has evacuated all households in high-risk areas to the village cultural house, school and relatives’ houses on high ground. With 10 houses affected by landslides, we have directed statistics and on-site inspection to propose emergency support to superiors,” said Ms. Diem. (MINH THONG)

Landslide on La Son - Hoa Lien highway

Due to the impact of heavy rain lasting for the past 2 days, the hill of dirt on the slope of La Son - Hoa Lien highway has flowed down onto the road, causing traffic congestion.

Mr. Tran Duc Hiep, Director of the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway Expansion Project ( Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board) said that in recent days, the Hue and Da Nang cities have experienced prolonged heavy rain, causing landslides at some points on the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway.

Specifically, on the morning of October 28, at Km46+300 of the La Son - Hoa Lien highway (section passing through Da Nang), a serious landslide occurred, with soil, trees... covering the road surface. It is estimated that several thousand cubic meters of soil collapsed at this location.

The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board requested relevant units to urgently clean up and handle landslides.

Previously, on October 26 and 27, heavy rain caused water from streams in the area across the highway to rise, bringing garbage, wood, and mud onto the La Son - Tuy Loan highway (sections passing Km12 and Km14), causing serious congestion. (GIA MINH)
