Bolero musical tells a love story

On the night of August 16, Ben Thanh Theater (HCMC) had a memorable performance with the bolero musical show Waiting for someone. General director Ngo Minh Trong dressed familiar bolero melodies in a captivating dramatic costume.

The story revolves around the love story of Huong (singer Thu Huong) and Hung (singer Huynh That). Their love blossomed in the peaceful countryside, then was separated by the upheavals of the times. The plot is not only guided by dialogue and action, but also woven from immortal bolero songs such as Con duong mang ten em, Nang len xom ngheo, Mot nguoi di, Nho nguoi yeu, Thu tinh em gai, Xin goi nhau la co nhan ... Nearly 20 songs, instead of being separate performances, are now skillfully strung together, becoming the heart's voice, the character's confession. The familiar lyrical melody, when placed in the right space and mood of the story, touches the audience's deep emotions, leading viewers through each range of emotions, from sweetness and happiness to separation and anxiety.

Beyond the love story of a couple, Waiting for you is also a slice of fate caught up in the flow of destiny. Although the story ends with the two haunting words "waiting for you", it still instills in the viewer a belief in the intact love of the heart.

The model of combining dialogue - singing - acting has brought a modern breath, helping the audience's emotions to be seamless. The stage was invested in elaborately, the multi-layered design combined with LED screen, 3D visual and sound and light effects have recreated a nostalgic memory space, evoking in the hearts of the audience images and lingering emotions. With the participation of young artists such as Thu Huong, Huynh That, Quynh Trang, Thoai Nhan, Ngoc Huong... Waiting for someone has proven the enduring vitality of bolero when placed in a new creative space.
