Children's musician
As one of the prominent musicians of the 8X generation, Nguyen Van Chung has left a deep impression with many famous hits. In addition to his music career for adults, most recently the song "Continue writing the story of peace" (more than 3 billion listens on music platforms), he has also quietly cultivated a humane composition - children's music. Since 2009, Nguyen Van Chung has started composing songs for children. To date, he has written more than 300 children's songs, many of which have become familiar melodies to children such as: "Small family, big happiness", "Flying into fairy tales", "Dreams of childhood", "Mom why?"... In particular, the song "Mother's diary" has crossed genre boundaries to become a cultural phenomenon, touching the hearts of millions of people and being translated into many languages.
Musician Nguyen Van Chung believes that music is very important for children, it sows the seeds of aesthetics and morality, helps children be less violent and know how to love. In areas without conditions, he makes videos teaching children to sing, directed by singer Duyen Quynh, so that teachers can teach even without equipment.
For musician Nguyen Van Chung, composing for children is a sacred duty, forcing him to accept “disadvantages” in pursuit. Like the period when he focused on writing music for children, for many years there was no revenue, no recognition, he had the intention of giving up. Then, he said, “suddenly, I received a message from a mother saying thank you because thanks to the song, her son said ‘I love you, mom’, something she had never received before. Another person said her child was slow to speak, but one day he came home to sing ‘Mom, do you know I love you so much’, making her cry like rain. Those messages pulled me back and completed the unfinished path.”
In 2020, Nguyen Van Chung was one of the first artists to be honored by the De Men Children's Awards with the De Men Aspiration Award, for the most outstanding children's songs he composed during that period. Not only stopping at composing, Nguyen Van Chung also actively trains young talents through music classes, community music playgrounds and charity projects aimed at children in difficult circumstances. He once shared: "Music is a way to sow love in the souls of children. A good song can follow them throughout their lives."
Inspirational Ambassador
The decision of the Organizing Committee of the De Men Children's Award to invite Nguyen Van Chung to be the Inspirational Ambassador in 2025 is of profound significance.
Implementing the direction of General Secretary To Lam in improving the physical and mental health of students, especially teaching music and physical education so that all students can develop and know how to play a musical instrument according to their talents and strengths. To realize that policy, on May 10, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch 61/CD-TTg on organizing the High School Graduation Exam, ensuring the staffing of preschool and general education teachers and summer vacation for children and students in 2025, which clearly states: "Mobilize and encourage artists, artisans, athletes, and experts to organize cultural, artistic, and sports activities, develop talents; build a suitable environment for learning and using foreign languages in the community, healthy entertainment and recreational activities, attract children, students, and university students to participate, contributingto educating ethics, lifestyle, behavioral culture, life skills, and improving the effectiveness of comprehensive education".
In that context, the appearance of an artist with both solid expertise and a passion for children like musician Nguyen Van Chung in the role of Inspirational Ambassador of the De Men Children's Award will certainly have very practical contributions to encouraging, motivating and further spreading the unique artistic creations of children and for children, contributing to enriching cultural life, improving children's tastes and aesthetics, especially this summer.
At the ceremony to announce the role of Ambassador of the De Men Award (May 12), musician Nguyen Van Chung emotionally said: “I believe that in every child is a magical world of childhood. If we sow the seeds of kindness, love and creativity, they will blossom into trees of life full of fragrant flowers and sweet fruits. I am honored to accompany the De Men Children's Award 2025 - a place to inspire and spread the best things to Vietnamese children”.
He also shared his desire to spread the spirit of creativity for children: “If you still keep a world of childhood in you, if you love children, if you desire to give the best things to your children, to the children of your friends, and to all Vietnamese children across the country… Let's join me in creating more literary and artistic works for children, so that the best spiritual seeds can sprout in the souls of children today and tomorrow.”
That simple but sincere sharing is a call to writers, artists, educators, parents and children themselves - that if we truly want to build a magical childhood world, we must create space for them to dream, create and freely express themselves. The Cricket Awards is such a "land" - where young ideas are nurtured and cherished.
The Cricket Awards are not just an award, but are gradually becoming an ecosystem promoting children's art in Vietnam. The entries over the years have shown a richness in content, genre and expression - from short stories, comics, poems, music to creative videos and animations. The good news is that there are more and more works created by children themselves, demonstrating the maturity of a young creative generation.
The presence of an Inspirational Ambassador like Nguyen Van Chung will help the award connect more deeply with the community - not only in the art world, but also to schools, families, educational and cultural organizations. With his influence, Nguyen Van Chung will contribute to spreading positive values, inspiring creativity and encouraging children to dare to write, dare to draw, dare to dream and dare to tell their own stories.
The 2025 De Men Children's Award is undergoing the selection rounds and is ready for the award ceremony to be held on International Children's Day (June 1). With the companionship of musician Nguyen Van Chung, De Men's journey of nurturing children's souls will certainly continue to reach far, becoming a beautiful symbol of art "by children" and "for children" in Vietnam.
