Replicating organic rice production model in Cam Xuyen

Through two pilot seasons of organic rice production, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh) is building a roadmap to replicate the model to develop green, clean, safe and sustainable organic agriculture.

This is the second year that Mr. Dang The Luan's family in Dong Trung village, Cam Binh commune (Cam Xuyen) has implemented an organic rice production model with technical guidance from Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company. According to the assessment, this year, Mr. Luan has achieved higher productivity and value than the first year of implementation.

The organic and safe rice production model is being implemented on an area of ​​15 hectares in Dong Trung village, Cam Binh commune.

Mr. Dang The Luan (Dong Trung village, Cam Binh commune) shared: “In the first year of the pilot in the spring crop of 2022, we focused on improving the soil quality, so the production cost was higher. In the second year, without having to apply base fertilizer, the family only had to apply 2 doses of high-quality organic mineral fertilizer from Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company, but the rice was very green. After harvest, the yield reached more than 2.3 quintals/sao, 0.7 quintals/sao higher than last summer-autumn crop. More than 1 hectare of organic rice of the family yielded more than 4.5 tons, although compared to regular rice, the yield was not as high, but the lowest selling price was 10,000 VND/kg, the family earned about 50 million VND, 1/3 higher than other rice production and was very popular with traders".

Compared with conventional production methods, organic rice production model gives good yield and high selling price.

Value from the pilot model of Mr. Dang The Luan, in the spring crop of 2023, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Crops and Livestock of Cam Xuyen district expanded rice production in the direction of organic and safe in the fields of Dong Nam Ly village and Binh Quang village (Cam Binh commune).

On an area of ​​15 hectares with 65 participating households, the locality produces organic rice variety ST25; cultivated according to organic processes, Guilin Group Joint Stock Company provides technical guidance and support. Accordingly, after the 2022 summer-autumn crop harvest, farmers collect straw instead of burning it to protect the environment and protect beneficial bacteria in the soil.

Before plowing and tilling the land, people are instructed to apply biofertilizer, compost straw and some organic mineral fertilizer to improve the environment. After 18 days of rice care, they fertilize the plants, and after 50-55 days, they fertilize the panicles with organic mineral fertilizer. To prevent pests, people are instructed to mix lime water to spray, depending on the type of disease to spray in the appropriate dosage.

During the production process, farmers were closely monitored and directed by Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company in coordination with the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Crops and Livestock of Cam Xuyen District. In particular, the model was directly worked with by Deputy General Director of Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company Ho Dang Khoa, who provided technical guidance. Along with that, the company assigned a technical officer in charge of the model to inspect and supervise; regularly measured the pH in the soil to promptly provide technical guidance to help farmers.

Mr. Tran Van Trung (Dong Nam Ly village, Cam Binh commune) excitedly said: “We were thoroughly instructed on the organic production process, helping people to be more disciplined in production, comply with techniques to produce consistent, quality products. 8 sao of ST25 cultivated organically yields about 2 tons. With a selling price of 10,000 VND/kg, my family earns about 20 million VND, about 4 million VND higher than commercial rice production. Organically produced rice is delicious, so many people have contacted to order. In the summer-autumn crop of 2023, my family will continue to expand the area in other fields.”

Ms. Tran Thi Khanh in Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune, has also been joyfully celebrating a good harvest in the past few days. She shared: “Growing rice using organic processes is more difficult, but we are very excited. Not only do we have a good harvest and produce clean rice, but first of all, we can rest assured about our health, our children and consumers can also eat clean rice.”

Rice produced according to the organic direction ST25 has a good harvest and good price, making farmers very excited.

According to people's assessment, ST25 organic rice has the ability to withstand weather conditions and pests better than other conventional production; reduces negative impacts on the environment and protects people's health. Applying the production process of Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company, people in Cam Binh commune, Cam Xuyen district are gradually improving the ecological environment. The organic rice production process helps plants grow and develop well, have strong roots, have few pests and diseases, and bloom in concentrated areas...

Moreover, using Que Lam organic microbial fertilizer helps beneficial microorganisms enter the soil to activate, decompose stubble, decompose fertilizer residues, bad soil layers... Thereby, helping to improve the soil environment, creating a loose soil layer to help rice plants grow.

However, the ST25 organic rice variety has a long growing period, so this summer-autumn crop, the locality plans to conduct seedling and transplanting according to technical procedures to ensure the crop schedule.

Mr. Dang The Luan (Dong Trung village, Cam Binh commune) improved the soil after the spring harvest using organic methods to prepare for summer-autumn production in 2023.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Duyet - Vice Chairman of Cam Binh Commune People's Committee said: "In the spring crop of 2023, along with the organic rice production model of the Center for Application of Science and Technology & Protection of Crops and Livestock of Cam Xuyen District, the locality also cooperated with the Ha Tinh Agricultural Extension Center to produce organic sticky rice 98 in Binh Quang village. These models are gradually bringing organic farming methods to farmers, gradually changing the thinking and awareness of producers towards improving economic efficiency, contributing to protecting the ecological environment and the benefits and health of consumers".

Not only in Cam Binh commune, currently, Cam Xuyen district People's Committee is developing a plan to continue expanding the area of ​​organic rice production in the whole district. Accordingly, in the summer-autumn crop of 2023, the locality will pilot the model of transplanting rice seedlings to produce organic rice in Cam Binh commune; in the spring crop of 2024, the district will expand about 50 hectares of organic rice production in the communes of Cam Thanh, Nam Phuc Thang, and Cam Binh.

The success of the organic rice production model in the fields of Cam Xuyen district is creating new values ​​for the local rice brand, contributing to the development of agriculture in the right direction, while gradually changing the awareness of Ha Tinh people about the production and consumption of rice products in the area.
