Previously, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc and Mr. Dang Van Thanh (Thong Nhat village) mainly raised cows to develop the economy . However, there was a time when the price of cows dropped, the cost was high, and the raising time was long, making the income increasingly unstable.
In 2022, after learning through the media and visiting some real models, the family decided to switch to raising deer. This is a new direction and also one of the first deer raising models in Thach Xuan commune.

At that time, from the province's rural economic development support fund and policy loans, Ms. Loc's family invested in barns and started with 10 deer breeds. To proactively source animal feed, the family also grew grass. Up to now, after 3 years, the model has proven to be clearly effective.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc shared: “My family was also worried when starting a new direction, but the process of learning, consulting and training in livestock farming techniques helped us gain more confidence. After more than 3 years, we can now confirm that our family has chosen the right direction. Each year, the deer give birth to a new batch of antlers, creating a stable source of income. The initial loan the family borrowed has been paid off and the deer herd continues to be maintained and expanded. We are working hard to increase the herd in the coming time.”

As for Ms. Tran Thi Huong (Lam Hung village), in previous years, her family struggled with her garden of oranges, apples, custard apples, etc. Although she took good care of them, due to unsuitable soil conditions, the fruit garden did not bring in much income.
Not accepting defeat, Ms. Huong's family boldly demolished the entire old garden and switched to growing guava with more than 100 trees. The soil and climate are suitable, so the guava garden grows well, the fruit is crispy, sweet, and favored by the market. In addition to the guava garden, her family also raises cows, chickens... earning about 200 million VND each year.

Ms. Huong said: "The Taiwanese pear guava variety was brought to the locality for trial planting and has now really shown its effectiveness. My family's guava garden sells out as soon as it ripens, there are times when there is not enough supply for customers."
It is known that Lam Hung village is one of the leading villages in eliminating mixed gardens, forming fruit tree growing models in the direction of commodity production. Guava has also become a highly effective tree in the locality. Mr. Phan Van Quynh - Head of Lam Huong village said: "People in the village are increasingly bold in applying new models. Seeing the effectiveness, many households who were previously hesitant have now proactively converted, following the experience of previous households. Currently, the whole village has about 6 hectares of guava growing area each year for a stable income".

Not only raising deer and growing guava, Thach Xuan people also boldly change ineffective plants and animals, shifting to developing integrated livestock farming, raising pigs, snails, honey bees... The whole commune currently has 96 economic models, each model brings in an income of over 100 million VND/year.
Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Duy said: "We have identified the conversion of crops and livestock as a key task to increase income and change people's production habits. The commune always accompanies, supports techniques, capital and guides the construction of sustainable models. The leading households have achieved high efficiency, creating motivation for other households to learn and replicate. Thanks to the right direction and the boldness of the people, the rate of poor households in the commune has decreased to 3.2%; the rate of near-poor households is 2.29%".

The bold change in mindset from "following habits" to "following the market" is helping Thach Xuan farmers not only stabilize their lives but also gradually become rich, creating a driving force for sustainable development for the locality.
