After a working day, the National Assembly successfully completed the discussion session on the results of the thematic supervision "Implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection since the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 took effect".
Concluding the session, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan said that the National Assembly deputies highly appreciated the supervision results and efforts of the Supervisory Delegation; the close and regular direction of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Government and the close coordination of relevant agencies to help the Supervisory Delegation complete its tasks.
Basically agreeing with the results achieved and the tasks that need to be continued as stated in the Monitoring Results Report, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan emphasized that our Party and State always advocate environmental protection as an important pillar of sustainable development; and have issued many resolutions and directives to strengthen environmental protection work.
The State's system of policies and laws on environmental protection is presented consistently, throughout, regularly, summarized, reviewed, supplemented and perfected to suit the country's reality, as well as the development trends of the times.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan said that environmental protection work has had many changes, achieving and exceeding many important goals and targets set out in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, as presented and analyzed in the thematic report, documentary film and discussion comments.
"However, if in the past, environmental protection was mainly about preventing and treating pollution, now the requirement is to create new development values, based on harmony between humans and nature. The task of protecting the environment does not mean paying for growth. Above all, environmental protection is the responsibility and duty to preserve and promote natural capital, closely linked in the new development space. Controlling waste sources, treating waste, recycling and reusing must become links in a circular economic ecosystem," the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.

According to the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, the way each of us behaves towards the environment is a mirror reflecting the country's level of commitment to sustainable development and also reflects each person's cultural behavior towards the natural environment.
The world is entering a period where green economy is no longer a concept but is gradually becoming a national competitive advantage. Therefore, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly believes that each locality should be considered a green nursery, a place to test and spread circular economic models, ecology, community tourism, and emission-reducing agriculture.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly also emphasized that the figures on waste treatment, recycling rate or development of eco-industrial parks are remarkable. However, more importantly, we must turn those results into social awareness and new development momentum. Environmental protection will hardly be successful if it only relies on laws or sanctions.

Environmental protection requires systematic thinking and systematic action. Environmental protection is not only the state's business but must and should be the business of every citizen. Environmental protection needs to be rooted in the awareness and daily behavior of every citizen. "Each of us not only complies with the law on environmental protection but is also protecting ourselves, preserving and creating a living environment for our family, relatives, community and most of all, the future of future generations," the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan also stated that, closely following the practical situation and listening to the opinions of voters and people, the National Assembly deputies have contributed many important opinions on the implementation of legal policies on environmental protection in the new context. The opinions focused on analyzing the results achieved, shortcomings and limitations, and at the same time contributing many solutions to perfect legal policies, overcome bottlenecks in implementation, with the motto of taking the protection of the living environment and people's health as the top goal, resolutely eliminating projects that cause environmental pollution, joining hands for sustainable development.

During the discussion, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan said that the National Assembly requested the Government to pay attention to closely and timely directing the promulgation and implementation of documents specifying the Law on Environmental Protection and related laws according to the Resolution of the National Assembly. The implementation of a number of policies in the law needs to be quick, authentic, and effective in practice. The National Assembly Standing Committee will direct the Supervisory Delegation and relevant agencies to study and absorb the opinions of National Assembly deputies to complete the draft Supervisory Resolution to submit to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
Believing that “the best time to plant trees was 10 years ago, the second best time is today”, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan emphasized that today is a good time for each person to concretize the results of thematic supervision on policies and laws on environmental protection into correct awareness, good deeds and practical actions for a green Vietnam.
