After a day of work, the National Assembly successfully concluded its discussion on the results of the thematic supervision on "The implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection since the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 came into effect".

Concluding the session, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan stated that the National Assembly deputies highly appreciated the results of the supervision and the efforts of the Supervisory Delegation; the close and regular guidance of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and the Government; and the close coordination of relevant agencies in enabling the Supervisory Delegation to complete its nhiệm vụ.

Basically agreeing with the results achieved and the tasks that need to be continued as stated in the Monitoring Report, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan emphasized that the Party and State of Vietnam have always advocated environmental protection as an important pillar of sustainable development; and have issued many resolutions and directives to strengthen environmental protection work.

The State's system of policies and laws on environmental protection is consistent, comprehensive, and regularly reviewed, supplemented, and perfected to suit the country's realities and the development trends of the times.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan stated that environmental protection efforts have made significant progress, achieving and surpassing many important goals and targets set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party, as presented in specialized reports, documentaries, and discussions.

"However, while in the past environmental protection efforts focused primarily on preventing and treating pollution, the current requirement is to create new development values based on harmony between humans and nature. Environmental protection does not equate to paying the price for growth. Above all, environmental protection is a responsibility and duty to preserve and promote natural resources, closely integrated within the new development space. Controlling emissions, treating waste, recycling, and reusing must become links in a circular economic ecosystem," the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.

According to the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, the way each of us treats the environment is a reflection of the nation's commitment to sustainable development and also reflects each individual's culture of interacting with the natural environment.

The world is entering a phase where the green economy is no longer just a concept but is gradually becoming a national competitive advantage. Therefore, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly believes that each locality should be considered a green incubator, a place to test and disseminate models of circular economy, ecological tourism, community tourism, and low-emission agriculture.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly also emphasized that the figures on waste treatment, recycling rates, and the development of eco-industrial parks are commendable. However, more importantly, we must transform these results into social awareness and new drivers of development. Environmental protection will hardly succeed if it relies solely on laws or sanctions.

Environmental protection requires systemic thinking and systemic action. Environmental protection is not just the responsibility of the state; it needs to be the responsibility of every citizen. Environmental protection must take root in the awareness and daily behavior of each citizen. "Each of us is not only complying with environmental protection laws but is also protecting ourselves, preserving and creating a living environment for our families, loved ones, communities, and above all, the future of generations to come," the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan also stated that, closely following the practical situation and listening to the opinions of voters and the people, National Assembly deputies have contributed many important opinions on the implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection in the new context. These opinions focused on analyzing achievements, shortcomings, and limitations, while also contributing many solutions to improve policies and laws, overcome bottlenecks in implementation, with the motto of prioritizing the protection of the living environment and people's health, resolutely eliminating projects that cause environmental pollution, and working together for sustainable development.

During the discussion, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan stated that the National Assembly requested the Government to pay close attention to and ensure timely issuance and implementation of documents specifying the Law on Environmental Protection and related laws in accordance with the National Assembly's Resolution. The implementation of some policies in the law needs to be swift, accurate, and effective in practice. The Standing Committee of the National Assembly will direct the Supervisory Delegation and relevant agencies to study and incorporate the opinions of National Assembly deputies to finalize the draft Supervisory Resolution for submission to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.

Stating that "the best time to plant trees was 10 years ago, and the second best time is today," National Assembly Vice Chairman Le Minh Hoan emphasized that today is the best time for each individual to concretize the results of the thematic supervision on environmental protection policies and laws into correct awareness, good deeds, and practical actions for a green Vietnam.
