At noon on November 24th, the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Quang Ngai province issued a quick report on the response to the heavy rains occurring in the area.

Accordingly, from November 22nd to 24th, Quang Ngai experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall, with measured amounts at several stations including Ba Dien (664mm), Tra Thanh (650mm), Ba Giang (458mm), Ba Lien (471mm), Hanh Tin Tay (356mm), Pho Phong (419mm), Duc Phong (270mm), Hanh Dung (271mm), and Son Nham (298mm).

Due to heavy rain, water levels on rivers are rising rapidly, such as the Tra Cau River at the Tra Cau station at 5.67m (0.17m above alarm level 3), the Ve River at the Song Ve station at 4.14m (0.64m above alarm level 2), and water levels on some rivers are continuing to rise.

According to the report, heavy rain and rising river levels caused flooding at culverts such as Thach Nham, Song Ve Siphon, and Hanh Dung-Hanh Nhan Canal Bridge, and approximately 15 meters of the Tra Cau river embankment were destroyed. Authorities are currently directing traffic and placing warning signs.

Specifically, from the afternoon and night of November 23rd to the morning of November 24th, several roads in Duc Pho town were flooded up to 50cm, causing water to inundate 70 houses. In response to this situation, authorities organized assistance to relocate some households in low-lying areas to safe locations.

The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Quang Ngai province has requested localities to implement measures to respond to heavy rains that pose a risk of landslides and flash floods in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying areas.

At the same time, localities must review residential areas at risk of flooding and landslides, and be ready to implement plans to relocate and evacuate residents to safe places.
