TPO - In the face of heavy damage caused by floods in the Central Highlands provinces, many universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City have implemented a series of practical support measures to share the difficulties with students and people in disaster-hit areas. From tuition reduction policies, tuition fee extensions to emergency fundraising campaigns, support activities are spreading strongly in the student community.

70% tuition reduction for students in flood-affected areas

On the morning of November 23, Dr. Hoang Van Phuc, Principal of Saigon Polytechnic College, said that the school had just made an urgent announcement about reducing tuition fees and supporting students severely affected by storms and floods.

Specifically, the school will reduce 70% of tuition fees for the second semester of the 2025-2026 school year for students from provinces heavily affected by storms and floods. The school will also reduce tuition fees by 50% for new students in the 2026-2027 school year with registered residence in localities that suffered major damage during the floods.

Mr. Phuc said the goal of the policy is to ensure that no student has to drop out of school because of a natural disaster. In addition to tuition fees, the school also mobilizes staff, lecturers and students to donate necessities to the people of the Central Highlands.

At the same time, many universities in Ho Chi Minh City have simultaneously launched fundraising campaigns to promptly support people in disaster areas.

At the University of Natural Sciences (VNU-HCM), the Youth Union - Student Association launched a program to receive clothes, instant noodles, milk, drinking water and necessities, attracting a large number of students to participate.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade organized a fundraising activity by having students make flower baskets and souvenirs to sell to raise funds. At Hong Bang International University, the school announced direct support for students whose families suffered losses due to floods, based on the actual level of impact and the school's funding.

Several other schools have also introduced policies to support students in flood-affected areas. Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City announced a temporary suspension of tuition fees and encouraged affected students to apply for support. University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has implemented scholarship support packages, tuition reductions or study credits for students from Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong and many other localities.

The Trade Union of the University of Finance and Marketing and the School Youth Union are calling on all teachers, staff, employees, students and alumni to join hands in supporting people in flood-affected areas.

Support in cash or in kind (instant noodles, dry food, milk, white notebooks, clean warm clothes, necessities...). The school is accepting relief donations at its facilities until November 25.

Faced with serious damage, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training also asked educational institutions in the region to consider reducing or extending tuition fees to support students whose families were affected by natural disasters, demonstrating the involvement of state management agencies in addition to efforts from the schools.

The above support activities are creating a strong spreading spirit in the educational community, helping students in flood-affected areas have more conditions to continue studying and providing timely support to people in difficulty.

Many schools consider this not only a social responsibility but also an opportunity for students to practice solidarity and mutual love - core values ​​that the university environment strives for.
