Ring the bell, child marriage decreases
On the afternoon of October 13, 2025, the yard of Bao Lac Town Secondary School, Bao Lac Commune, was filled with laughter and applause when the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Cao Bang Province coordinated with the School to organize the "Golden Bell" contest to promote the reduction of early marriage and incestuous marriage.

Mr. Be Dang Khoa, Provincial Party Committee member, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Cao Bang province, attended and delivered the opening speech, emphasizing: “Child marriage is not only a barrier to the development of each individual, but also affects the future of the entire community. Each student today is a young propagandist, bringing knowledge and understanding of the law and gender equality to each family and village.”

In the school yard, 384 students held answer sheets A, B, C, D, concentrating on answering each question. The questions revolved around knowledge about early marriage, incestuous marriage and the social consequences of these behaviors.

After 21 questions, Hoang Hanh Trang, a student of class 9A2, excellently rang the golden bell and won first prize. Trang shared: “Through the contest, I have a better understanding of the harmful effects of early marriage and incestuous marriage, and from there I know how to propagate to my family and friends to prevent it.”
The exciting atmosphere also spread at Yen Son Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Thanh Long Commune (Cao Bang) on the afternoon of October 14, 2025. 95 students enthusiastically participated in the contest.

Vi Thi Minh, grade 7, after passing 15 questions, won first prize and emotionally said: “The contest is a useful playground. Early marriage and incestuous marriage prevent many young people from moving forward in life. I will share what I have learned with everyone around me.”
One contest, many meanings
At this time, the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Cao Bang province is coordinating with 15 ethnic boarding schools, semi-boarding schools and secondary schools in the area to organize a series of "Ring the Golden Bell" contests with the theme of promoting the reduction of early marriage and incestuous marriage. Students from grades 6 to 9 are allowed to answer questions by raising their answer boards.

Ms. Nong Thi Toan, Principal of Yen Son Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said: "Through the contest, students not only understand more about the law, but also have the awareness to study, start a business, stay away from bad customs, and contribute to economic development and poverty reduction for the locality."
Mr. Nguyen Van Huy, Principal of Bao Lac Town Secondary School, shared: “Students are the most effective propaganda force. When they understand, they will tell their parents and friends and from there spread the message of building a civilized family.”
Contribute to sustainable poverty reduction
The Golden Bell Contest is part of Sub-project 2 "Reducing child marriage and consanguineous marriage among ethnic groups facing many difficulties" under Project 9 of the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021-2030, implemented by the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Cao Bang province.
From 2021 to the end of July 2025, the entire Cao Bang province organized 111 propaganda competitions at schools and communes with more than 18,400 participants; 44 training conferences for more than 3,000 delegates; 309 propaganda conferences with more than 21,000 participants. In addition, the Department also organized working groups to learn from experiences, integrating propaganda into hundreds of conferences and meetings in villages and hamlets, contributing to spreading awareness to the grassroots level.

Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Cao Bang province, Be Dang Khoa, affirmed: “Propaganda and legal education are the foundation of sustainable poverty reduction. When awareness changes, behavior will change. Reducing child marriage and eliminating consanguineous marriage not only protects the health and rights of women and children, but also opens up opportunities for people to rise up, contributing to the goal of comprehensive development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.”
Mr. Be Dang Khoa also said that in the coming time, the Department will continue to strengthen and innovate propaganda forms. "We hope that each bell ringing in the contest is not only a bell of knowledge, but also an awakening for the community to say no to child marriage, towards a prosperous and equal future." - Mr. Khoa emphasized./.
