Thao Duong (33 years old, Wisconsin, USA) was born in Ho Chi Minh City, settled in the US for more than 10 years. Thao is an engineer, working for Kimberly - Clark Corporation.

When she first came to America, Thao was under a lot of pressure, to the point of crying every day. Because, a medical student admired by many people in Vietnam, when she came to America, she had to start from zero.

Overcoming the shock, Thao studied on her own and rushed to take the university entrance exam. It took Thao 3 years to integrate into life in America. At that time, she had no relatives by her side, her only emotional support was her boyfriend.

“My lover is my old classmate in Vietnam. After coming to America, we kept in touch and developed feelings for each other.

He helped me a lot. We were together for about 3 years, from 2013 to 2016. The good times didn’t last long. We broke up after a few back and forths.

We broke up because of differences in life views and disagreements surrounding his "little sisters", Thao Duong shared.

Perhaps, the pain from her past love made Thao become more reserved and introverted. For a long time, Thao only went to school and came home.

Thao only really changed when her superiors suggested that she "live true to her vibrant personality." After that sincere comment, Thao looked back at herself and became more sociable.

Through many ups and downs, Thao learned how to live for herself and understood what she needed to be happy. Before, she was the type of person who, when in love, would give her all, running around everywhere to take care of her lover.

Later, she realized that love is like sand, the tighter you hold on to it, the easier it will slip away. The only thing you need to do is choose the right person to love. If you choose to love the right person, you don't need to hold on.

Thao likes to make friends with lovely dogs.

With a perspective drawn from her failures, Thao Duong listed a series of criteria she wanted in a lover. She seriously wrote down all her thoughts and requirements about her ideal husband on a piece of paper and kept it carefully.

In it, Thao wrote that the man she was looking for must have a stable job, be educated, know how to cook, know how to share housework, be calm...

In fact, the criteria Thao set out were very simple, similar to the wishes of most women. The only difference was that most women chose to keep it a secret, while Thao wrote it down on paper and was determined to follow the plan.

Love the right person

Thao considered herself lucky to have found her ideal lover so early. However, at first, she did not realize that her dating partner had the criteria she was looking for.

That is Mr. Xin Li (34 years old, from Liaoning, China) settled in the US for about 15 years. Currently, he works as a software engineer for US Venture/US Energy.

Thao first met Xin Li at a friend's house. They were both single so they decided to get to know each other.

Thao said that the two did not have a courtship period because Xin Li was quite dry. He was not in a hurry or trying to impress his girlfriend.

Mr. Xin Li always proactively helps Thao Duong take care of pets.

However, on weekends, he often drives to visit his girlfriend. He cooks with her and walks the dog.

“I am the one who plans to make the weekend not boring. During the week, we usually video call every evening for about an hour.

The old me would always feel anxious if my lover read my messages but didn’t reply. When I was dating Xin Li, I wasn’t like that anymore. We texted each other several times a day, and video called each other at night…

It seems indifferent, but when I had an accident, a minor one, he immediately came to visit me even though we were 2 hours away by car. I thought that was enough, and just like that, we became acquainted and fell in love,” Thao confided.

The two lovers did not have a confession, neither of them said anything first. Only when Thao reminded them for fun, Xin Li happily announced: "I will plan a grand confession."

A few days later, he chose to confess his love at Thao's house. Before starting, he asked Thao to go to his room so he could prepare. Thao found her lover's actions both funny and adorable.

When she stepped out into the living room, Thao was really surprised when in just a few minutes her boyfriend had prepared balloons and arranged heart-shaped candles. In the candlelight, he was wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and reading a prepared speech… That cute image made her emotional, hugging her boyfriend.

During the time she decided to change jobs and move from Kentucky to Wisconsin, Thao was worried and uncertain about how to tell her lover. She thought her love would “fall away”. Because in the US, many couples break up if one person changes jobs.

"It's about a nine-hour drive from Kentucky to Wisconsin, which makes me even more nervous.

However, he really surprised me when he agreed to move with me. Among all the people I have known, he is the only one who did that. It makes him special in my eyes,” Thao confided.

Thao commented that Xin Li is a cold person on the outside but warm on the inside, and his actions speak louder than his words. He can clean the kitchen every day and is willing to surf YouTube to learn how to cook his girlfriend's favorite dish.

For the first time meeting her boyfriend's family, Thao and Xin Li went on an 11-hour journey. During the trip, he took care of Thao very thoughtfully, carrying all her luggage and even preparing snacks.

The couple are now married and living happily.

“He walked faster so he always held my hand tightly. He was afraid I would fall behind,” Thao said happily.

Another time, the two of them took three dogs to visit a friend. These three dogs were Thao's beloved pets.

To help Thao get more sleep, Xin Li woke up early to take care of his pets. He took such good care of his girlfriend's three dogs that Thao's friends thought they were his own.

This person also praised him for being diligent, warm, and thoughtful. At that moment, Thao knew she had found the ideal husband, meeting 90% of the initial requirements.

In November 2023, Thao and Xin Li officially became a family in an extremely minimalist wedding. They are having sweet, leisurely days with 3 adorable puppies.
