The program's voting council members include Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association Trinh Thuy Mui... The council chairman is journalist Le Quoc Minh - Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association .

The categories honored include: Outstanding Singer of the Year, Outstanding Male/Female TV Actor of the Year, Outstanding Movie Actor of the Year, Community Artist, Outstanding Live Music and Dance Show of the Year.

What surprised the audience was that singer Hoang Thuy Linh was honored in the Outstanding Singer category. With this award, Hoang Thuy Linh is recognized as a singer who creates trends, connecting young audiences with contemporary music . She has many innovations in her artistic journey.

When receiving the award, Hoang Thuy Linh shared that this recognition made her need to try harder, the award is a motivation for her to strive in her career and contribute a little to the music environment.

However, in 2023, Hoang Thuy Linh also got caught up in a scandal at the concert press conference, an incident that caused a stir in the showbiz world and became a topic of discussion for a long time.

He said that Hoang Thuy Linh was honored because her musical activities had influence and spread. She also did not violate the law or Decree 144/2020/ND-CP on performing arts activities.

"In addition, the program's organizers aim to honor outstanding artists, not a competition between singers," Mr. Tran Huong Duong added.

In the Cinema category of the Green Star Awards, Tran Thanh unexpectedly won Best Director with the film Mrs. Nu's House , surpassing many strong competitors such as director Bui Thac Chuyen ( Radix Ashes ), Vu Ngoc Dang ( Con Nhót mot chong) , Victor Vu ( The Last Wife )...

The film Mrs. Nu's House achieved record box office revenue, becoming the highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time with a total revenue of over 459 billion VND - according to data from Box Office Vietnam (an independent box office monitoring unit). However, in terms of quality, Mrs. Nu's House is not highly rated.

The selection of Tran Thanh and Bui Thac Chuyen to jointly evaluate the category "Best Director" caused fierce controversy due to the difference between the two entertainment and art films.

At the time of its release, the film was poorly reviewed because the script contained many vulgar lines and included many swear words. The story was built on a familiar pattern, the director did not put much effort into it and did not show any artistic creativity.

Meanwhile, director Bui Thac Chuyen returns with the film Glorious Ashes . He won important categories at the 2023 Kite Awards including the Best Director and Best Drama award. At the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival, director Bui Thac Chuyen was also honored with the Golden Lotus for the film Glorious Ashes , the Best Director award; Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film also went to actor Le Cong Hoang of the film Glorious Ashes.

Meanwhile, at the 2023 Da Nang Asian Film Festival held in May 2023, Tran Thanh and the film Mrs. Nu's House were also honored. Most of the audience were not really convinced with this award.

Therefore, when Tran Thanh surpassed Bui Thac Chuyen in the Green Star award, it was considered unreasonable, making many audiences angry.

However, if we consider many aspects, the fact that the Organizing Committee put the film Mrs. Nu's House by Tran Thanh and Bui Thac Chuyen's Ashes of Glory on the "scale" for comparison is unreasonable and awkward. Because the two films belong to two different genres, commercial entertainment films have different award criteria, art films have different criteria. The Organizing Committee should divide the categories and award criteria more clearly to avoid causing unnecessary controversy and confusion.

Truong Giang surpasses Thanh Loc in acting role

Also within the framework of the Green Star Award, web drama category, the nominated male actors include many famous names such as Quach Ngoc Tuyen, Ngo Kien Huy, Ung Hoang Phuc, Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc and Truong Giang.

However, Truong Giang almost won all the awards with his role as Buong in Chuc Tuong Giao Hang. The role helped Truong Giang win the “double”: Best Actor in the web drama category (voted by the Arts Council) and Most Favorite Actor (voted by the audience). At the same time, the film was also named in the category of Best Web Drama.

Although Truong Giang admitted that he was embarrassed to receive this award because he won against Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, the award organizers were still criticized by the audience.

Similar to Tran Thanh, Truong Giang also caused controversy for receiving the award for best actor. Most opinions said that his role did not really have much innovation, still loyal to the familiar comedy style that made his name. In addition, compared to Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, Truong Giang is still very far behind in terms of acting technique.

Actors not nominated received awards

In addition, the Green Star Award also caused controversy in some other categories. It is worth mentioning that actor Pham Huynh Huu Tai, who was not on the nomination list, still won the Promising Face Award for his role in the film Blood Happiness.

Responding to the media about actor Huu Tai not being on the nomination list but winning the Promising Face award in the film category, the organizing committee of Green Star 2023 said that on January 9, the art council conducted the judging.

During the film review process, the art council highly appreciated Huu Tai's role as Thai Phong in the film Bloody Happiness . The council decided to change the nomination of child actress Luu Ly (who played Dong Nhi in the film The Last Wife ) to actor Huu Tai in the Promising Face award in the film category.

Actor Pham Huynh Huu Tai and the Organizing Committee were caught up in rumors of "buying and selling" awards when he suddenly appeared at the awards ceremony.

The Organizing Committee explained that the decision was changed at the last minute, close to the gala night and award ceremony, so it was not possible to inform everyone. After the award ceremony, the Organizing Committee will issue an official notice.

Blue Star is an annual award ceremony to honor films, artists and producers with outstanding contributions during the year. The Art Council of Blue Star 2023 includes Mr. Dinh Trong Tuan (Editor-in-Chief of Cinema World Magazine), directors Dao Ba Son, Le Hoang, Duc Thinh, actress Kim Xuan, screenwriter Chau Tho, Doan Minh Tuan.
