Xinhua News Agency reported that an explosion at a factory in Muroran city, Hokkaido, Japan, in the early morning of December 1, caused a large fire and scattered concrete debris everywhere.
According to the local fire department, residents living near Nippon Steel's steel plant in Muroran called the fire department at around 00:55 a.m., reporting shaking in their homes and the possibility of a fire.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and confirmed that a furnace exploded, causing a large fire inside the factory.
The fire department said about 10 workers who were at the scene at the time were evacuated and no one was injured. The fire broke out fiercely and the firefighting operation lasted for several hours.
The plant has shut down the kiln and is assessing the damage and potential impact on its supply chain and logistics.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
