Romanian authorities announced that one person was killed and 46 others were injured in two explosions that rocked a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) station near the capital Bucharest on August 26.
The first explosion occurred at a fuel station in the town of Crevedia, 30km north of Bucharest. The fire spread to two fuel tanks and a nearby house, forcing authorities to evacuate people within a 700m radius and temporarily block the nearby highway. The second explosion occurred in the evening, injuring 26 firefighters who were trying to control the fire at the scene. Notably, of the 46 injured, 8 suffered severe burns and had to be intubated.

The Romanian government held an emergency inter-ministerial meeting at the Ministry of Interior headquarters to discuss the incident. Speaking to reporters later, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said the four critically ill patients would be transferred to hospitals in Italy and Belgium for treatment.
On social media, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis also sent his condolences to the families of the victims, affirming that the incident was a tragedy. He called on the authorities to quickly conduct an investigation and take urgent measures to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.
