Where the super-rich spend tens of thousands of dollars a week to live long

VnExpressVnExpress04/12/2023

To prolong their lives, the super-rich are willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars each week to buy a course of medical examination and care at longevity clinics.

Longevity clinics offer everything from genetic testing to complementary medicines to personalized treatment plans to help people live longer.

Top senior clinics can provide more science- based and personalized advice, according to Matt Fellowes, an advisory board member at the Stanford Center on Longevity in the UK.

Here are the 5 most elite longevity clinics for the super rich:

Hooke, London, England

Hooke operates on the mission that “early intervention can cure the vast majority of diseases.” To achieve that goal, it has developed the world’s most advanced health screening method, creating personalized and continuously evolving longevity plans for its clients.

Hooke offers about 20 health tests, from MRI scans and bone density tests to full genome sequencing and cognitive assessments.

According to Hooke's CEO Kate Woolhouse, the clinic's programs use long-term data from each person's medical , fitness, nutritional and cognitive assessments to build a comprehensive picture of a person's risks and vulnerabilities - providing the basis for medical recommendations.

Hooke has three membership plans. Healthspan, the popular plan, costs nearly $40,000 a year and comes with benefits like diagnostic testing, a personalized nutrition plan, access to a scientific advisory board, exclusive supplements, and an Oura ring.

Hooke's average clientele is 50. But over the past year, the center has seen an increase in clients in their 30s.

Clinique La Prairie, Geneva, Switzerland

Clinique La Prairie has been around for over 90 years and is renowned as a prestigious destination for the wealthy who want to slow down the aging process through personalized treatments.

The clinic's premium recovery package is a 7-day, 6-night experience recommended for those aged 35 and over. It includes longevity consultation, sleep quality assessment, DNA testing, nutritional guidance and personal training sessions.

This is just a small part of the whole program, which includes luxury accommodation, limousine service, access to steam rooms, swimming pools, saunas and zero-gravity floating beds – where guests can float on water and listen to sounds to relieve stress.

According to a spokesperson for Clinique La Prairie, the program stimulates cell regeneration, combating the signs and causes of aging, and strengthens the immune system through a four-pillar approach of medicine, nutrition, wellness, and movement.

The cost for this luxurious week (in a room with a balcony and a view of Lake Geneva) is as low as $53,000 (nearly VND 1.3 billion).

RoseBar, Ibiza, Spain

At the RoseBar Clinic at the luxury Six Senses resort, the seven-day wellness program costs about $4,700 per person, not including accommodations and meals. The program includes advanced diagnostic testing, a comprehensive health check, spa treatments, yoga classes, energy medicine sessions, and biohacking therapy.

The most common treatment is an intravenous infusion called “Ozone Therapy,” which increases oxygen levels in the body and enhances cell function.

“Delivering certain nutrients directly into the bloodstream has an immediate impact on vitality. It’s part of a larger longevity process,” says Dr Tamsin Lewis, medical advisor to RoseBar.

The Well Clinic Chain

The Well's longevity-focused services include infrared saunas, cold therapy and health coaching... The centers have attracted many businessmen and celebrities such as actors Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Well facility at Hacienda AltaGracia, Costa Rica is located next to the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the five Blue Zones - where people live the longest and happiest - on the planet.

The Well offers a four-day retreat at Hacienda AltaGracia, which costs about $3,000 per person. It includes longevity-enhancing practices, a variety of fitness classes, and wellness consultations. Guests at Hacienda AltaGracia can also book wellness tours in the nearby Blue Zone.

Wellness tourism has been a popular trend among wealthy travelers for the past few years. According to the Global Wellness Institute, the wellness tourism industry is expected to grow by nearly 17% annually and reach $1.4 trillion by 2027.

Lanserhof Lans, Austria

Founded in 1984, Lanserhof focuses on comprehensive gut regeneration to restore vital forces. The method uses detoxification, purification and deacidification based on holistic medicine, psychology and modern medicine.

According to Dr. Katharina Sandtner, medical director of Lanserhof, the diet here is not easy in the first days. Clients may sleep all day or have headaches. But after a few days, the good energy returns and stays for a long time.

The clinic's most basic package, the week-long "Cure Classic," starts at more than $3,000 per person, not including accommodations. It includes multiple medical tests, body composition testing, urine analysis, therapeutic massage, detoxification treatments, hydrotherapy, medical lectures, group exercise, and relaxation therapies.

Those struggling with the late effects of Covid can avail of a package worth more than $5,200 (VND126 million), which includes seven health checks, respiratory therapy, foot reflexology and various altitude training sessions, along with group exercise and relaxation sessions to rejuvenate the body and mind.
