'Nowhere' - a battle for survival in the ocean

While trying to leave the country in turmoil, the character Mia suddenly goes into labor and has to give birth in a container drifting at sea, in the movie "Nowhere".

Directed by Albert Pintó, the film follows Mia (played by Anna Castillo) and her husband Nico (Tamar Novas) as they flee a troubled country to illegally immigrate to Ireland. They lose all their possessions, including their wedding rings, to get into a shipping container.

During the move, Nico was pushed to another place. As for Mia, she was lucky to escape death, while the rest of the people on the container were killed by the rebels. But the bad luck did not stop there, on a stormy night, Mia fell into the sea with the container. At this time, she had to find a way to survive.

Mia represents the image of a resilient woman who does not surrender to fate. She is bold and intelligent when dealing with unexpected situations. Mia does not want to lose her child, because she made a mistake that caused her first child to die. This became an obsession throughout her journey.

The relationship between Mia and Nico brings a lot of emotion to the film. The filmmaker shows the bond between the two through their support and encouragement through phone calls. The scene where Nico says goodbye to Mia and her mother moved many viewers. The family was separated by war, Nico did not have the chance to see her child born, and Mia could not reunite with her husband.

Before Nowhere, films about the survival genre in nature had resonated and attracted audiences such as Cast Away (2000), Life of Pi (2012) or The Revenant (2015). Nowhere showed the development in increasing the difficulty of this film genre.
