Du Duc Linh (1886-1944), was a famous writer with the pen name Princess Duc Linh. She was fluent in many languages ​​because she followed her father as an ambassador when she was young, and lived for many years in Japan and France.

Her father was a Qing Dynasty official and noble, her mother was French. At the age of 17, she returned to China with her parents. Knowing that Duc Linh was knowledgeable about foreign languages ​​and Western etiquette, Empress Dowager Tu Hy ordered Duc Linh and her younger sister to enter the palace, to be one of the Eight Great Female Officials (8 female officials) serving the Empress Dowager.

In 1930, when Deling was 44 years old, she dressed in Manchu costume and made a video introducing China in English. She said that contemporary society was experiencing unprecedented changes. She hoped that countries would increase understanding and respect for each other for a peaceful world .

Duc Linh introduced the unique features of Chinese culture to Americans, hoping to promote mutual understanding between the people of the two countries. She understood that China and the United States had many big differences, but the Chinese people were willing to learn and respect those differences.

In March 1905, Deling left the palace. Two years later, she married the deputy representative of the American consulate in Shanghai and moved to the United States. She later wrote down her memories of her time in the Forbidden City in a memoir called "The Qing Palace's Second Year," also known as "Two Years with Empress Dowager Cixi."

After Empress Dowager Cixi passed away in 1908, because many newspapers and magazines reported false information about Empress Dowager Cixi, Duc Linh wrote the book "Old Buddha" published in 1911, becoming a valuable document for historical researchers.

She then went on to write and publish seven famous works. De Ling taught Chinese at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1944, she died in a traffic accident.
