Valedictorian Ngo Bao Chau 'takes extra lessons from her twin sister'

Ngo Bao Chau, a 12/3 student at Nguyen Khuyen High School, Dien Ban Town ( Quang Nam ), has excelled in becoming the valedictorian of the Quang Nam Province High School Graduation Exam with a total score of 55.25 in 6 subjects. In which, the scores for the subjects are: math 8, literature 9.5, history 9.75, geography 9.75, civics 9.25, English 9. In block C alone, he scored 29 points.

There is no secret

Ngo Bao Chau is the second child in a family of four siblings in Dien Thang Bac Ward (Dien Ban Town). His father is a bricklayer and his mother is a small trader. Understanding the family's difficulties, Chau has strived to study on his own since childhood with the desire to "use literacy as a foundation to escape poverty".

Even though the exam scores have been officially announced, Chau still cannot believe that he is the valedictorian of Quang Nam province in this year's high school graduation exam.

"I never thought of the title 'valedictorian'. Because my family did not put too much pressure or emphasis on studying. I also never required myself to try to get high scores or perfect scores. However, when I found out that I was the valedictorian of Quang Nam province this year, I burst into tears out of surprise and happiness," Chau said.

Because her family did not have the means, Chau did not go to extra classes and mainly studied on her own. In her free time, Chau often helped her mother sell goods, do housework and take care of her younger siblings.

Chau has a twin sister, but unfortunately since birth her intelligence was not developed like normal people so she cannot go to school.

"Every day, I always remind myself to try to learn more about my twin. This is also the motivation for me to try to study and find the best university for myself," Chau's voice choked up.

One of the experiences that helped Chau do well in the recent exam was to always focus on learning the basic knowledge in the textbooks, before thinking about advanced knowledge. Entering the exam room, she always created a comfortable mood for herself, without pressure.

Ngo Bao Chau also modestly said that compared to the students in the school's specialized classes, her academic performance is "normal". "I don't have any secret. I always study by myself, look up difficult problems online to solve them myself, and practice more exam questions. Practicing exam questions helps me find the wrong answers and then correct them", the valedictorian said and informed that she will register for admission to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City.

Giving advice to future students, Ngo Bao Chau said: "Don't put pressure on yourself about your scores. For the high school graduation exam, in addition to equipping yourself with adequate knowledge, the most important thing is to balance reviewing all subjects and create the most comfortable spirit possible for yourself."

A student with ambition

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Anh, the homeroom teacher, assessed Ngo Bao Chau as a very intelligent but modest student. He is good at all subjects, not just block C.

Ngo Bao Chau has been an excellent student for 12 consecutive years, has a very high self-study ability, and has always been at the top of his class in terms of scores for 3 years in high school. Chau also just won 3rd prize in the provincial geography competition for excellent students.

Ngo Bao Chau became the valedictorian of the 2024 high school graduation exam in Quang Nam province with a total of 55.25 points.

"During her studies, Chau has always been a brave student and has her own opinions. In addition to being good at studying, Chau has always completed her class and school tasks excellently. With her tireless efforts over the past time, the result of being the top student in the province in this year's exam is completely worthy of this young student," said teacher Nguyen Thi Kieu Anh.

Speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Vo Anh Tai, Principal of Nguyen Khuyen High School, said that Ngo Bao Chau is a very hard-working student, has a very serious learning attitude and is good at all subjects.

No matter how easy or difficult the lesson is, Chau always does it seriously and carefully. She has a high learning spirit. If she has any doubts, she proactively asks the teacher for explanations, even outside of class time.

The whole country has no candidate who scored 10 in math in the 2024 high school graduation exam.

"This result is due to Ngo Bao Chau's personal efforts. The school is very happy and honored to have a student who is the valedictorian of the province in the 2024 high school graduation exam," Mr. Tai shared.

In the 2024 high school graduation exam, the whole Quang Nam province had a total of 91 exams with a score of 10. Of which, 17 were chemistry, 26 were history, 33 were geography, 9 were civics , and 6 were English.
