Ba Den Mountain: Ready for the United Nations Vesak Festival 2025

The main theme of the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak (Vesak Day) is “Solidarity and Tolerance for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insight for World Peace and Sustainable Development”.

2025 is the fourth time Vietnam will host the United Nations Vesak Festival. This is an extremely meaningful international cultural diplomatic event of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the country in 2025, an opportunity to introduce the image of the country and people of Vietnam as peace- loving, friendly, united and harmonious.

Ba Den Mountain: The place where Buddha's relics are enshrined

Within the framework of the Buddha's Birthday, Ba Den Mountain was chosen as the place to enshrine the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni, from May 8 to 13, on the first floor of the Buddhist Exhibition Center (Ba Den Mountain peak), creating conditions for Buddhists and tourists to worship and pay homage. Along with this event are many meaningful activities such as: the ceremony of planting 108 Bodhi trees originating from India; lighting 50,000 candles to pray for world peace at the square at the top of Ba Den Mountain...

The United Nations Vesak Day is an extremely meaningful international cultural diplomatic event of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the country in 2025.

In Buddhism, relics are considered sacred "treasures", symbolizing the presence of Buddha and bringing blessings to worshippers. According to Sun World Ba Den Mountain, on May 8, Buddha relics will be welcomed and enshrined at the top of Ba Den Mountain, opening up a precious opportunity for Buddhists and tourists from all over to worship together. The organization of welcoming and guiding the delegation of the Vesak Festival to visit and operate in Tay Ninh is guaranteed to be solemn and thoughtful, from the preparation work to the sideline activities of the Festival according to the program; at the same time, ensuring security, safety and convenient traffic during the delegation's arrival in Tay Ninh, especially in the area of ​​​​the procession of Buddha relics on the top of Ba Den Mountain.

In 2025, for the fourth time, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will host the United Nations Vesak Festival in Ho Chi Minh City.

The reception and activities of the Vesak delegation in Tay Ninh aim to demonstrate the respect, hospitality and honor of the province; strengthen the cooperative relationship and cultural exchange between Vietnam and the international Buddhist community, creating conditions for delegates and Buddhists at home and abroad to exchange and spread the good values ​​of Buddhism. This is also an opportunity to promote the image and tourism potential of Tay Ninh province, contributing to attracting tourists to Tay Ninh, promoting the development of the local economy, culture and society.

The Bridge Between Religion and National Development

In 2025, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will host the United Nations Vesak Celebration in Ho Chi Minh City for the fourth time. With the main theme: “Solidarity and tolerance for human dignity: Buddhist wisdom for world peace and sustainable development”, the ceremony officially opened on May 6 and closed on May 8, with the participation of more than 2,700 delegates, including 1,250 delegates from 85 countries and territories.

This is an extremely meaningful international cultural diplomatic event of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the country in 2025; an opportunity to introduce the image of the country and people of Vietnam who love peace, friendliness, solidarity and harmony; for international friends to witness Ho Chi Minh City as dynamic, creative, prosperous and thriving after 50 years of national reunification; Vietnam integrating, developing and reaching out to the world in the new era. The 2025 United Nations Vesak Celebration is an opportunity to affirm to the international community the consistent policy of respecting and ensuring freedom of belief and religion of the Party and State of Vietnam; about the reality of religious freedom in Vietnam; about the achievements that the religious community in Vietnam has achieved after 50 years of national reunification.

Within the framework of the grand ceremony, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha announced to the public for the first time 87 national treasures of Buddhism. These are treasures that mark the development periods of Vietnamese Buddhism, from its introduction to Vietnam until today.

Notably, on May 2, the Buddha's relics - India's national treasure - were brought to Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) and were brought to Thanh Tam Pagoda (also known as the Lonely Buddha Pagoda, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) for monks and Buddhists to worship, opening the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival. This is the first time that Buddha's relics from the National Museum of India have been exhibited in Vietnam.

According to the Organizing Committee of the Great Festival, the worship of Buddha's relics will take place from May 3 to noon on May 8. In the afternoon of the same day, the ceremony to send Buddha's relics to Tay Ninh will be held and enshrined at the top of Ba Den Mountain. The worship schedule will take place from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., from May 9 to 12.

On the morning of May 13, a ceremony was held to send the Buddha's relics to Hanoi and they will be enshrined at Quan Su Pagoda (from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., from May 14-16).

On the morning of May 17, the Organizing Committee will hold a ceremony to send the Buddha's relics to Tam Chuc Pagoda, where they will be enshrined from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on May 17 to 21.

On the afternoon of May 21, the ceremony to send Buddha's relics to Noi Bai International Airport to return to India.
