Workers' Month, Month of action on occupational safety and hygiene: Towards the grassroots

Taking place from May 1-31, 2025, with the theme "Vietnamese workers pioneering the new era", many practical and specific activities during Workers' Month and the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) were organized by grassroots trade unions at all levels, demonstrating their commitment to action, listening and accompanying workers.

Businesses commit to action

ZhengXing Company Limited (Vietnam), a 100% foreign-invested enterprise, has been operating in Thanh Thanh Cong Industrial Park (Trang Bang town) since 2019.

According to Mr. Yu Qian - General Director, the company currently has 1,875 employees. Over the years, the company has regularly implemented plans to inspect management and implementation of workplace safety and labor hygiene.

Annually, maintain the organization of risk assessment for the entire factory, through each assessment period, find locations and factors with potential accident risks, use that as a basis for the factory to overcome and prevent the risk of occupational accidents.

In 2024, in addition to hiring training units for occupational safety groups, organizing training to issue operating certificates, and providing labor protection equipment for workers when working in positions with strict requirements on occupational safety.

Machinery and equipment with strict requirements on labor safety are inspected and tested by the company in accordance with regulations. In addition, the company arranges staff in charge of fire prevention and fighting; establishes a grassroots team, a specialized team, each team has 25 members; at the same time, monitors and manages to ensure food safety and health safety for employees in the company.

“For workers and their families, the losses caused by work-related accidents and occupational diseases are beyond anyone’s imagination. In addition, we also need to remember that work-related accidents and occupational diseases have a significant impact on the business and reputation of employers.

However, we can prevent most of these losses if businesses pay more attention to occupational safety and health management systems, workers follow safety instructions, and construction works will be much safer. To do that, both employees and employers need to be more aware of occupational safety and health risks," said Mr. Yu Qian.

He added: “The company will implement all regulations to ensure good working conditions for employees”. In response, during Workers’ Month and Occupational Safety and Health Month, the company will continuously disseminate information and propaganda at the workplace and commit to taking action, assessing and finding locations and factors with potential risks of accidents, using that as a basis for the factory to overcome and prevent the risk of occupational accidents.

In addition, the training organization issues operating certificates and provides labor protection equipment to all employees while working; in positions with strict labor safety requirements, machinery and equipment are inspected in accordance with regulations in accordance with the law on labor safety and hygiene; create conditions for officers and employees to participate in movements and competitions related to labor safety and hygiene at the workplace among workers such as: Labor Safety and Hygiene Quiz, Golden Bell Competition, etc.

Representing union members and workers at Pou Hung Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Cha La Industrial Park, Duong Minh Chau District), Mr. Nguyen Huu Can - Chairman of the Trade Union said that, in addition to caring for and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers, building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in the enterprise, during the Workers' Month, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union coordinated with the Board of Directors of the Provincial Economic Zone Trade Union to organize the awarding of "Union Shelter"; launch the Ho Chi Minh cultural space; reward 16 outstanding union members and workers; give gifts to union members and workers in difficult circumstances, give gifts to more than 10,000 union members and workers during the Workers' Month and cultural, artistic and sports activities... The total cost was nearly 3.2 billion VND.

As part of the series of activities of Workers' Month and Occupational Safety and Health Action Month, the 8th Cross-Country Race in 2025 was held with the participation of nearly 700 officials, union members, workers, and foreign experts.

Some trade unions coordinate with businesses to organize skill competitions and innovation competitions, thereby honoring and praising workers with achievements in labor and production, many initiatives, creativity, and high achievements.

In addition, trade unions coordinate with employers to proactively visit and encourage employees who have occupational accidents or diseases and their families who have serious or fatal occupational accidents, and workers in difficult circumstances at the enterprise; negotiate and sign collective labor agreements, dialogue with employers about jobs, wages, bonuses, improve the quality of shift meals, welfare policies, and working conditions of employees; inspect and supervise occupational safety and health.

During the peak month, the affiliated trade unions developed 3,500 union members and introduced 220 outstanding union members for consideration of training and admission to the Party. Thousands of workers and laborers made efforts to overcome difficulties and actively studied outside of working hours, and were encouraged by agencies and enterprises to create conditions for them to study culture, skills, and professional expertise, improving their professional qualifications, management capacity, and skills.
