Raising awareness of organic farming for farmers
The implementation of agricultural extension projects and models has created a breakthrough for the local agricultural sector, thereby raising awareness of the benefits of organic farming, reducing negative impacts on the environment and increasing the efficiency of natural resource use. Agricultural products produced have better quality and increased value, contributing to increasing farmers' income.
In the period of 2023-2025, the total rice production area of the province will reach nearly 148,700 hectares, the average yield will reach 55.21 quintals/ha, and the harvested output will reach more than 820,900 tons. The production areas are mainly concentrated in 4 districts and towns: Chau Thanh (about 40,704 hectares), Trang Bang (33,798 hectares), Ben Cau (33,359 hectares), Go Dau (18,274 hectares).
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, rice production is still facing many difficulties, with small-scale production; low chain linkage; consumption still depends on traders, leading to unstable prices and low income; the rice brand has not yet developed; the area of rice certified by VietGAP is still limited; the abuse of fertilizers and pesticides is still common. The consequences are increased production costs, reduced profits and environmental pollution.
To overcome the above problems and orient the rice production industry towards improving quality, forming high-quality rice areas, organic rice, sustainable farming adapting to climate change, many agricultural extension models on rice have been deployed such as: high-quality rice production model with a scale of 80 hectares (2023-2025) in Chau Thanh, Ben Cau districts, Hoa Thanh town; certified rice seed production model, scale of 120 hectares/year (2024-2025) in Chau Thanh, Ben Cau, Go Dau districts, Trang Bang town and Hoa Thanh town...
Cassava is considered the province's key industrial crop, with an area of 61,390 hectares in 2024, an average yield of 33.5 tons/ha, concentrated in Tan Chau, Tan Bien, Chau Thanh and Duong Minh Chau districts. The cassava variety structure in the province is gradually changing in a positive direction, focusing on reducing the area planted with varieties that have not been announced for circulation or varieties that are severely infected with mosaic disease. Instead, the province encourages farmers to switch to using announced, less disease-prone cassava varieties to increase productivity and starch content.
From 2023 to 2025, fruit production in Tay Ninh has made important developments, with the area, quality and consumption market all being expanded, contributing to promoting the province's agricultural economy. In 2023, the fruit growing area reached 25,000 hectares (an increase of more than 1,000 hectares compared to 2022), with an output of nearly 333,000 tons. The work of granting growing area codes has been promoted, with 15 codes for more than 552 hectares exported to China, the United States and the EU. The production area meeting VietGAP standards increased by more than 652 hectares; GlobalGAP 23.6 hectares and organic production 4 hectares.
Agricultural extension models have contributed to concretizing the goal of restructuring the fruit industry: rebalancing land funds, increasing the area and productivity of specialty fruit trees; applying VietGAP and high-tech production processes; organizing production according to large-field and cooperative models; linking preservation, processing and consumption; mobilizing the conversion of low-efficiency crops to high-value fruit trees such as durian, longan, custard apple, rambutan, forming concentrated production areas, meeting domestic consumption and export standards.
Regarding livestock farming, the agricultural extension model contributes to changing livestock farming practices from small-scale to concentrated farm scale, applying high technology and biosafety measures; guiding and supporting livestock farming households to build and be certified for good livestock farming processes according to VietGAHP, disease safety. Advanced farming techniques are transferred to producers such as using self-mixed feed, herbs to replace antibiotics to reduce costs, increase profits, create clean products, easy to consume. Farmers are improved in their level and production thinking through training courses in the model.
Promoting agricultural extension work in the period 2026-2030
In order to improve the quality and effectiveness of agricultural extension activities, in the coming time, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment will focus on improving the capacity of the agricultural extension team and strengthening the construction of linkages, supporting the consumption of agricultural products; synchronizing the management and organization of agricultural extension activities.
Strengthen agricultural extension work, transfer and disseminate new scientific and technological advances; train and improve farmers' awareness and skills in applying science and technology to production; strengthen consulting work and provide information on agricultural product and commodity markets to farmers.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to develop and implement agricultural extension models, select suitable locations and households to improve efficiency; coordinate with relevant agencies to develop agricultural extension plans according to the actual needs of the locality, prioritize potential models that can be replicated; develop specialized crop and livestock growing areas.
On the other hand, create conditions for investors to build factories to process and consume agricultural products; focus on training to improve production capacity for farmers, cooperatives, and agricultural cooperatives. In particular, replicate effective models, propagate and popularize the province's agricultural development policies and orientations, creating a strong change in the local crop and livestock structure.
