EDITORIAL NOTE: The teaching profession has always been honored and admired. On the occasion of November 20, VietNamNet has launched a series of articles about teachers and artists standing on the podium and on the stage who are diligently creating stars in the fields of cinema, theater, music ... They can be a former runner-up, a famous People's Artist on the screen or a singer with a PhD who is known nationwide.

People's Artist Hong Van: Teacher and "matchmaker" for students

People's Artist Hong Van started opening actor training classes around 2010. Up to now, many generations of students have become famous in the fields of drama and film such as: Xuan Nghi, Lac Hoang Long, Minh Nga, Dinh Manh Phuc, Tuan Dung, Le Loc, Linh Chi, Ma Ran Do...

Some students turned to other directions such as Dang Thanh Ngan, 2nd runner-up Miss Ocean Vietnam 2017 and 4th runner-up Miss Supranational 2023; Thien Nhan is the talented male king of Mister Vietnam 2024; singer Bao Yen Rosie...

"No matter what field you pursue or succeed in, you still remember your teachers and always love and support the stage in many different ways. I really appreciate it," Hong Van told VietNamNet.

She has countless memories of her years of "ferrying the boat" - both happy and sad. She realizes that her students, whether famous or not, talented or not, when they come to the stage, all have one thing in common: passion and love for acting.

"The circumstances are varied, but 90% of the children do not have family support and have to work hard to earn money to pay for their tuition, studying and working at the same time. Every time I think about their circumstances, I easily cry because of pity," the People's Artist shared.

Among her many students, the case that Hong Van remembers the most is the special couple Tuan Dung and Le Loc. Because no student had to take on so many roles: from teacher, manager to matchmaker, sometimes even the "judge" to help the young couple reconcile.

Now that Tuan Dung and Le Loc have become husband and wife, Hong Van is probably the second happiest person, only after her biological parents.

"I have to accept it because Tuan Dung and Le Loc both call me mom. Dung and Loc even joked that when they have children, they won't know whether to call me grandma or grandma. They all fight over who's 'mom' so sometimes they have to call me grandma," she said with a laugh.

Up to now, despite many ups and downs, Hong Van has never let go of the stage, partly because she wants to keep the common home to nurture the next generation.

Hong Van said that for an artist who truly loves her profession and considers the stage as her flesh and blood, losing the stage is the scariest and saddest thing. She also fears the "domino effect", meaning that if one stage closes, it could drag down the others.

Aware of her age, Hong Van, in addition to making her own efforts, has also continuously nurtured the next generation, finding students who are truly passionate and dedicated to join hands in preserving traditional theater, not only drama but also reformed opera, tuong, cheo...

Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi: "Golden hand" in the training industry

Meritorious Artist Minh Nhi is known as the "golden hand" for successfully training many generations of artists such as: Viet Huong, Thuy Nga, Hanh Thuy, Tiet Cuong, Thu Trang, Xuan Nghi, Tuan Dung, Minh Du, Thach Thao, Huu Dang, Khiet Dan...

"It may be a bit too confident to say it, but each generation of my students has a few who have made a place in the hearts of the audience. That makes me feel like I can still teach," he joked.

Minh Nhi is always proud to have many good students; every November 20th, generations of students "buzz" with congratulations. On holidays, New Year, birthdays, ancestor worship... students often form groups to "raid" and surprise him.

Most of the students who became famous, some even became A-list stars, still treated their teachers the same way. For example, artist Viet Huong showed her love for her teacher through the smallest gestures, like when someone gave her a jackfruit, she still remembered that this was her teacher's favorite food.

On the contrary, Minh Nhi still kept the habit of scolding, even when his students were famous. Thuy Nga, Tiet Cuong, Hanh Thuy were all famous but still got scolded by the teacher as usual.

The Meritorious Artist explained that "scold" is to advise and admonish because of love and concern for students, not because of reckless or condescending behavior.

"If anyone listens, I'll yell at them again next time. If anyone doesn't listen, then stop talking," he said.

Besides, some students later stopped contacting their teachers, even disrespecting them, showing disloyalty. Minh Nhi considered this to be normal. He compared himself to a ferryman, if someone remembers him when crossing the river, that's good, if not, that's fine.

Minh Nhi emphasized that celebrities or young people who love art, have passion and aspiration can all become his students. And once they are students, Minh Nhi will set rules for them to learn and follow, especially learning about ethics.

To this day, he still holds the view that ethics is the first lesson of an actor. Because ethics is a subject that actors have to learn their whole life.
