Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong surveyed and redefined the scope of customs operations at Hong Van border gate.

The operation is implemented based on Government Decree No. 12/2018/ND-CP (amending and supplementing Decree No. 01/2015/ND-CP) on regulations regarding customs operational areas and responsibilities for coordination in preventing and combating smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across borders. The objective is to clearly define the coordinates and administrative boundaries after the reorganization of the two-tiered government apparatus, thereby advising on adjustments and additions to regulations to suit the actual situation; while simultaneously facilitating the supervision and control work of customs forces and improving the effectiveness of state management.

According to the survey, the boundary of the A Đớt border gate area is defined from milestone 666 (coordinates 16°03′59.793″ North latitude, 107°22′19.234″ East longitude). The scope includes: 1.5 km to the right, from the national border (coordinates 16°04′00″ North latitude, 107°23′09″ East longitude) to the Ho Chi Minh Highway (coordinates 16°06′08″ North latitude, 107°22′31″ East longitude); To the left, 3 km, from coordinates 16°03′29″ North latitude, 107°20′37″ East longitude to coordinates 16°05′30″ North latitude, 107°19′59″ East longitude; extending 4 km inland from milestone 666 along the old National Highway 14 to the border with the Ho Chi Minh Highway.

The Hồng Vân border gate area is defined from milestone 647 (coordinates 16°17′17.763″ North latitude, 107°07′14.673″ East longitude). The boundaries include: 1 km to the right, 1 km to the left; extending inland from milestone 647 along National Highway 49F to the border with the Ho Chi Minh Highway, a distance of 13.6 km.

Speaking at the survey, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong emphasized that accurately defining customs areas is a crucial requirement to create a clear legal framework and ensure management and supervision are in line with practical realities. He also requested that relevant departments and agencies closely coordinate in reviewing, measuring, and comparing coordinates to ensure scientific accuracy, objectivity, and feasibility when proposing adjustments.

The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee also noted that determining customs areas not only serves the professional work of the customs sector but also facilitates import and export, border trade, and contributes to socio-economic development while maintaining national defense and security. He also assigned the Customs Sub-Department of Region IX to take the lead and coordinate with relevant units to complete the dossier and report to the City People's Committee and the Customs Department for submission to the competent authority for consideration and decision in accordance with regulations.

The review and adjustment of customs areas at the A Đớt and Hồng Vân border gates has long-term significance, helping to strengthen management effectiveness while expanding cooperation and promoting cross-border trade between Vietnam and Laos. This is a necessary step to maximize the potential and advantages of the border region, linking economic development with the task of ensuring national security and defense, aiming to build a modern, synchronized, and efficient border gate system.
