Staff of the Institute of Water Resources Economics and Management, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment conducted a survey to assess the current status of centralized rural water supply works in Tu Quan commune (Yen Son).

The domestic water supply project in Tu Quan commune (Yen Son district) was completed and put into use in 2021. Up to now, the project has provided stable clean water to 565 households, agencies and schools in the commune. Having a clean water source for daily life and production has helped people feel much more secure than before, when they had to use well water or water brought from the mountains that was not hygienic.

Ms. Ly Thi Gioi, Binh Ca 2 village, shared: "Previously, my family used well water, which often had sediment and strange smell, and was not hygienic. Since the clean water supply project was built, my family immediately registered to use it. Currently, we use about 20 - 25m³ per month for daily life and livestock. Since using clean water, the whole family's health has improved, and we have fewer digestive and intestinal diseases. Thanks to that, we can work with peace of mind and develop the economy ."

According to the Rural Clean Water Center (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tuyen Quang province), the unit is currently assigned to manage and operate 73 centralized domestic water supply works across the province. Immediately after being handed over the management of the Tu Quan commune water supply work, the Center assigned 2 staff members to be directly in charge with the coordination of technical support from the departments and offices under the Center to manage, operate and repair and maintain the work.

These officers not only ensure the stable operation of the project but are also responsible for recording meter readings and collecting monthly water usage fees from households and users, and are also responsible for repairing and maintaining the project.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, manager of the Tu Quan Commune Domestic Water Supply Project, said: "Currently, the project is supplying water to 565 customers. In addition to managing operations and recording monthly indicators, we also promptly handle incidents, perform maintenance according to plan or when there is an urgent request, to ensure the water supply is always uninterrupted."

The Rural Water Supply Center also regularly inspects key items such as the source area, raw water pipelines, tanks, electrical systems, pumps, pipeline systems and works on the route. On that basis, protection and response plans are built to ensure system safety, especially during the rainy and stormy season.

Mr. Cao Xuan Huy, Head of Planning - Technical - Synthesis Department, Rural Clean Water Center said: “In 2024, due to the impact of storm No. 3 (storm YaGi), 13 water supply works were seriously affected, with rocks and soil burying the source, pipeline landslides, pumps short-circuiting and burning, and many pipe sections broken. Immediately after the weather stabilized, the Center mobilized human resources to urgently fix the problems at 10 works to quickly restore water supply to the people. At the same time, the Center also advised the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funds to repair 3 works that were severely damaged."

The three projects proposed for repair support include: the domestic water supply project in Na Dua village (Da Vi commune, Na Hang district), the domestic water supply project in Ao Xanh village (Duc Ninh commune, Ham Yen district) and the domestic water supply project in the central area of Hung Duc commune (Ham Yen district). Up to now, the two projects have completed the repair, while the domestic water supply project in Ao Xanh village is still under construction to ensure it can be put into use soon to serve the essential needs of the people.

Along with the management, operation and exploitation of the project, the Rural Clean Water Center also closely coordinates with the Provincial Center for Disease Control and the People's Committees of communes in promoting public awareness. The content of the propaganda focuses on protecting water resources, maintaining environmental hygiene, using clean water properly, etc. Thereby, contributing to improving the quality of life and health of the people.

Up to now, over 97% of the rural population in Tuyen Quang province has access to clean water. This is an important result, contributing to the effective implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development in localities.
