Mr. Dang Van Phuc's model of raising wild animals, fish snakes, is opening a new direction in developing local family economy .

In June 2021, Mr. Dang Van Phuc bought 300 fish-breeding snakes to raise to earn extra income. His original plan was to raise snakes for meat to sell, but after seeing that fish-breeding snakes had high economic value, he boldly invested in breeding snakes to sell snakes.

The fish snake will be able to reproduce its second litter by June 2024. Each breeding snake costs between 70,000 - 100,000 VND.

Mr. Dang Van Phuc sells more than 700 breeding snakes, earning nearly 70 million VND/year.

Currently, Mr. Phuc has a cement pond of about 5m2 ^to raise parent snakes with 240 snakes (including 120 female snakes weighing from 2.0 - 3.0 kg/snake and 120 male snakes weighing from 0.8 - 1.0 kg/snake) and 2 cement ponds of about ^10m2 to raise 160 reserve snakes.

Sharing about the model of raising wild animals, this specialty, Mr. Dang Van Phuc said: Snakehead fish is very easy to raise, requires little effort and is rarely infected with diseases.

However, when the weather changes, this specialty snake is susceptible to heat shock, leading to indigestion. At that time, the breeder only needs to mix digestive enzymes into the food and feed the snake, the disease will be cured after a few days.

Snakeheads are very easy to care for. Newborn snakes should be fed small fish in the first 10 days such as: catfish, betta fish, baby catfish... on average, small snakes should be fed once every 3-4 days, large snakes should be fed once every 7-10 days.

The food of the tilapia snake is mainly trash fish (whole tilapia) that is sorted to fit the snake's mouth, without needing to be processed or chopped.

The stocking density for parent snakes is 50 snakes/ ^m2 , no need to change water regularly, regarding water source, underground water can be used for breeding.

Breeding snakes is not difficult. Snakes will start reproducing after 18 months.

The fish snake species begins mating from the 9th - 10th lunar month and reproduces from the 3rd - 4th lunar month every year.

Mr. Dang Van Phuc noted that when the mother snake is pregnant, you should not catch the mother snake because it can easily cause a miscarriage.

Snakes mate and reproduce on their own, each female snake can produce 5-8 baby snakes, then remove the baby snakes to a separate tank. After 1 month of care, the baby snakes can be caught and sold as breeding snakes.

With the above characteristics, many people are currently choosing to raise snakehead fish to help increase their income.

The model of breeding snakes is very suitable for farmers with little capital and land. However, breeders must master the technical process, know how to choose good breeds, build solid ponds, and provide adequate food... so that the snakes are healthy, grow quickly and achieve high economic efficiency.
