The keeper of the “standard source of knowledge”
In the development flow of the country, education is always considered the foundation, the driving force to create high-quality human resources to serve the construction and protection of the Fatherland. Along with the school system, the teaching staff, textbooks, educational materials and publications for learners play an extremely important role.
Vietnam Education Publishing House has been and is a core unit, holding a special position in the cause of social development and fostering reading culture.
Not only a textbook publishing agency, Vietnam Education Publishing House also plays an important role, having a profound influence on the development of society and reading culture in Vietnam. Going beyond the function of providing basic knowledge, the Publishing House is also one of the factors shaping thinking, educating personality and nurturing the love of reading for many generations of Vietnamese people.
Vietnam Education Publishing House is responsible for compiling and publishing official textbooks for all levels of education. This is a set of national “knowledge standards”, contributing to ensuring fairness in access to knowledge for all students from urban to rural, mountainous and island areas. Textbooks are not only learning tools, but also the foundation for guiding thinking, personality and lifestyle for many generations.
Vietnam Education Publishing House is also the “keeper of the national soul” through each page of the book. The Publishing House’s publications are both scientific and modern, and focus on conveying Vietnamese historical and cultural values, helping the younger generation understand and be proud of their roots. At the same time, the Publishing House has also gradually expanded international cooperation, bringing Vietnamese knowledge to the world and receiving the quintessence of human knowledge. |
With a widespread distribution system, the Publishing House has made an important contribution to eliminating the gap in access to knowledge. Books reaching students in remote areas and ethnic minority areas not only bring knowledge but also bring opportunities to change their lives. This is a profound social role, contributing to promoting educational equity and reducing the gap in knowledge between regions.
The most obvious role of the Vietnam Education Publishing House is to provide knowledge and shape the national education system. Millions of students across the country have been using textbooks compiled by this publishing house. These books not only convey scientific, cultural and historical knowledge but also serve as a guideline for the curriculum, ensuring the consistency and quality of the education system. Thanks to that, the Publishing House has contributed to creating a solid foundation for the development of high-quality human resources, serving the industrialization and modernization of the country.
In addition, the Publishing House is also a unit that spreads cultural and ethical values. Textbooks and reference books not only contain academic knowledge but also incorporate lessons on patriotism, national spirit, ethics, and lifestyle. Stories about Uncle Ho, national heroes, poems, and literary works imbued with humanity... included in textbooks have contributed to educating the personality and nurturing the souls of the young generation. This has great significance in building a civilized and progressive society.

Fostering a reading culture in the digital age
In the context of digital technology , the habit of reading printed books is facing many challenges. Vietnam Education Publishing House has proactively transformed itself, developing e-books, digital libraries, and open learning resources, contributing to enriching readers' choices. Not only stopping at textbooks, the publisher also focuses on publishing reference publications, children's books, life skills books... to inspire a passion for reading, forming a healthy reading culture in society.
Vietnam Education Publishing House is also the “keeper of the national soul” through each page of the book. The Publishing House’s publications are both scientific and modern, while also focusing on conveying Vietnamese historical and cultural values, helping the younger generation understand and be proud of their roots. At the same time, the Publishing House has also gradually expanded international cooperation, bringing Vietnamese knowledge to the world and receiving the quintessence of human knowledge.
"The role of Vietnam Education Publishing House goes beyond the scope of a publishing unit. It is the role of a 'silent teacher', carrying the responsibility of nurturing knowledge, building personality, and fostering a reading culture for society." |
For reading culture, Publishing House plays a role in initiating and sowing seeds. Right from the first years of life, children have access to the first books through textbooks. Images of colorful pages, attractive stories in Vietnamese books, History books have aroused curiosity, imagination and joy in discovering knowledge. Textbooks are the first door opening the world of books for each person, creating the habit and passion for reading from a young age.
In addition to textbooks, Vietnam Education Publishing House also publishes many types of reference books, science books, and literature books for school-age children. These publications have enriched the bookshelves of school and family libraries, helping students have more resources to look up, expand their knowledge and entertain themselves. This directly promotes diverse reading habits, not only limited to the curriculum but also towards reading for discovery and to enrich the soul.

Towards a learning society, sustainable development
In the knowledge era, a learning society is an inevitable trend. With its mission, Vietnam Education Publishing House plays the role of a "knowledge infrastructure" of the country - a place to provide, disseminate and continuously innovate knowledge, contributing to building learning citizens, learning families and learning communities. This is the foundation for Vietnam to develop sustainably in the 21st century.
The role of Vietnam Education Publishing House goes beyond the scope of a publishing unit. It is the role of a “silent teacher”, shouldering the responsibility of nurturing knowledge, building personality, and fostering a reading culture for society.
However, in the modern context, when digital technology is developing strongly, the role of publishing houses also faces many challenges. To continue to promote its role, publishing houses need to constantly innovate, not only stopping at paper books but also developing e-book platforms and digital documents. Diversifying content, forms and approaches will help publishing houses continue to maintain their position, becoming a trusted companion on the journey to conquer knowledge and nurture a reading culture for Vietnamese people.
It can be said that Vietnam Education Publishing House is not only a book supplier, but also a knowledge creator, shaping education and sowing the seeds of reading culture for the whole society. In the journey of educational innovation and international integration, the Publishing House continues to innovate and create to both preserve traditional values and meet modern learning needs, thereby affirming its irreplaceable position in social development.
"Reading culture plays the role of glue that binds the community"
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tung, Member of the Board of Members, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, believes that in modern life, reading culture still plays the role of a glue that binds the community. Through reading culture spaces such as libraries, book clubs, book cafes, or online reading groups, readers can share common interests in books and participate in volunteer activities. Reading culture, therefore, plays a role in connecting people regardless of gender, age, occupation or social status. Vietnam Education Publishing House has implemented social contribution programs, including donating shared bookcases and reference books to school libraries; donating textbooks, learning equipment and scholarships to students and schools in disadvantaged areas to fulfill its social responsibility and mission of accompanying education. Another notable activity is that the Vietnam Education Publishing House has coordinated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to launch the Vietnamese Bookshelf for Overseas Vietnamese - an initiative that contributes to preserving the mother tongue and national cultural identity. The bookshelf helps Vietnamese families living abroad not only create the habit of reading Vietnamese books for their children from a young age, but also creates a space for cultural activities of the Vietnamese community, reading Vietnamese books also creates a connection between overseas Vietnamese and the country. In addition, the Publishing House continues to expand its distribution system to remote areas, while promoting the application of digital technology to facilitate the transmission of knowledge. Currently, readers can access free e-textbooks as well as documents for teachers on the websites: https://hanhtrangso.nxbgd.vn and https://taphuan.nxbgd.vn/. On August 16, in preparation for the new school year 2025 - 2026, Vietnam Education Publishing House presented 1,235 sets of textbooks "Connecting knowledge with life" to students of flood-affected schools in Dien Bien province, with a total value of 290 million VND... "The above activities are clear evidence of the positive role of Vietnam Education Publishing House in developing a reading culture and connecting sustainable knowledge for the community," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tung affirmed. According to Mr. Tung, currently, the number of books Vietnamese people read on average each year is still low compared to the region and the world. To improve this situation, many forms of encouragement and synchronous solutions are needed. Although digital technology has developed with many modern means and audio-visual culture has developed, reading culture is still irreplaceable. Reading books, in addition to improving knowledge, also creates conditions for children to improve concentration and enhance thinking skills. This will help them be more flexible and responsive when handling situations in life. "We always consider developing a reading culture an important mission. In addition to textbooks and special reference books that have been published and won awards, in the coming time, we will continue to promote the publication of special reference books with high knowledge content, contributing to improving people's knowledge, building a learning society, and promoting the image of Vietnam to the world. We will strengthen the development of digital products with the desire to bring books closer to readers," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tung emphasized. |
