"Snail" Huynh Ha Huu Hieu successfully defended his world Muay Thai championship title.

(NLDO) - Huynh Ha Huu Hieu defeated the home team's boxer to successfully defend his Muay Thai World Championship title held in Antalya, Türkiye.

On the evening of May 31, female boxer "Snail" Huynh Ha Huu Hieu successfully defended her championship title at the IFMA 2025 World Muay Thai Championship, taking place from May 22 to June 1, in Antalya (Turkey). This championship helps her affirm the leading position of herself and Vietnamese Muay Thai in general in the international arena.

In the final match of the women's 45kg category, the "Outstanding Young Citizen of Ho Chi Minh City" defeated the home boxer Gamze Korkmaz with a knockout (KO) victory when there were only 24 seconds left in the first round. Huu Hieu kicked his left foot into the stomach of his opponent, causing the home boxer to collapse on the spot, to successfully defend his championship title.

Previously, Huu Hieu defeated Fereshteh Hassan Zadeh (Iran) in the quarter-finals and Elizaveta Zavarzina (Russia) in the semi-finals by scoring, 30-27.

"Snail" Huu Hieu (blue) excellently knocked out the home Turkish athlete in the first round to defend the World Muay Thai gold medal.

The female boxer was born in 1999 in Khanh Hoa with the nickname "Snail" due to her small body (1.58 m), but she possesses an impressive record of achievements: World Champion in the youth tournament in 2013, 2016; World Champion 2019, 2021; World Grand Slam Gold Medal 2022; SEA Games 32 Gold Medal and SEA Games 31 Silver Medal.

In addition to Huu Hieu, the Vietnamese Muay team participating in the tournament also won many other outstanding achievements at this tournament, including: Gold medals : Hoang Thi Thu (71kg women's U23), Hoang Khanh Mai (45kg women's U23), Hoang Dinh Manh and Nguyen Ngoc Hoang Mai (Muay U23); Silver medals : Bui Hai Linh (51kg women's U23), Nguyen Hoang Son (Waikru U23), Pham Thi Bich Lieu (Waikru Senior); and Bronze medals : Nguyen Thi Huong (67kg women's U23), Nguyen Hoang Minh (Waikru Senior men), Cao Thi Thanh Mau, Tran Thi Anh Tuyet (Maimuay U23), Nguyen Hoang Son (48kg men's Senior).

The success of this tournament is a testament to the strong development of Vietnamese Muay Thai and an important stepping stone towards continental and regional tournaments later this year.

The team is expected to return home on June 2 and have a short break before entering the Asian Muay Championship in Thai Nguyen from June 20 to 26.
