At 5am, when the streets were still quiet, Mr. Tran Dang Khoa (71 years old, residing in Bach Mai ward, Hai Ba Trung district) was present in front of the gate of Tran Phu High School, where his grandson was taking the 10th grade entrance exam.
Last night, after the first day of exams, my granddaughter called her grandparents. On the other end of the line was a sob, choking sound because her test results were not as expected.
"Hearing my grandchild cry, my heart ached. I just wanted to see him right then and there to comfort and encourage him. I had trouble sleeping all night, woke up at 4am this morning, then drove to the exam site to wait to see him," Mr. Khoa said.

Amidst the bustling crowd, he could not meet his grandchild, partly because the number of parents taking the student to the exam site was too large, and partly because he did not bring his phone and could not contact him.

On his motorbike hung a package of sticky rice and a bottle of water that he had bought in a hurry early in the morning, but he didn’t bother to eat. He was worried and wished he could see his grandchild to give him a hug and words of encouragement.

Before the exam, Mr. Khoa often called to encourage me, telling me to try my best, stay calm and be confident. The result is not as important as how hard I tried.
