The leaders are expected to hold a private meeting first, followed by a meeting with delegations. The agenda includes cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in political , trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other areas.

Russian news agencies said Mr Mirziyoyev received Mr Putin when the Russian president arrived at the airport in the capital Tashkent on Sunday evening and the two leaders travelled together in a car.

Photos and videos posted on the Kremlin website and Russian news agencies showed Mr Putin visiting New Uzbekistan Park in the capital Tashkent and laying wreaths at Uzbekistan's independence monument.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian television that Russia was ready for broader cooperation on gas supplies with Uzbekistan, saying "the potential here is huge".
Before his visit to Uzbekistan, Mr. Putin has traveled to China and Belarus since being re-elected as Russian President for a fifth term.
