Former President Trump says he's "OK" with jail time or home confinement for 34 counts of falsifying business records. But he says the American people may not accept that punishment.

The latest comments were made by the former president in an interview with Fox News that aired on June 2. When asked about the upcoming punishment, Mr. Trump said he was fine with it.
"I saw one of my lawyers on television the other day saying, 'Oh no, you don't want to do that to the president.' I said, 'No begging for anything,'" Trump said, adding: "I don't think the public would agree with that. It's a hard thing for the public to accept. At a certain point, it's a threshold."
Mr Trump has not said what would happen if that threshold is breached. Last week, a jury convicted him of falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
Mr Trump, who is the Republican presidential candidate, said the trial was politically motivated. "People understand that. It's a hoax. Republicans agree with this. They see it as the weaponization of the Justice Department , the FBI, and it all comes from Washington," Mr Trump accused.
Asked what Trump supporters should do if he is imprisoned, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Lara Trump told CNN: "They're going to do what they've been doing from the beginning, which is to stay calm and protest at the ballot box on November 5. There's nothing else to do but protest this loudly and clearly."
The judge will hand down his sentence on July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump will be confirmed as the party’s presidential nominee. He is the first former US president to be convicted of a crime. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison, but a conviction does not bar Trump from running for office or running for office if he wins. The former leader’s legal team has said it will appeal.
