OpenAI is considering developing a new web browser to compete with Google. This browser would integrate ChatGPT and other AI tools to transform the user experience.
According to The Information , OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has recruited two key engineers for the Google Chrome project. Ben Goodger is known as one of the creators of the Chrome browser.
If the plan is implemented, OpenAI will become a direct competitor to Google, the company that currently holds a large share of the browser and search market.

OpenAI's project is gaining more attention amid calls from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) for Alphabet (Google's parent company) to sell its Chrome browser as a remedy in an antitrust lawsuit.
According to court filings, the DOJ argues that separating Chrome from Google would "permanently prevent Google from maintaining control over its search engine setup and allow rival search engines access to the browser."
Launched in 2008, the Chrome browser provided user data, which Google could then use to target advertisements. The DOJ stated that forcing Google to sell Chrome would create a more level playing field in the search industry.
"To remedy these harms, Google is required to divest from Chrome. This will permanently prevent the search giant from controlling this vital tool and allow competitors to access the browser, which many users use as their gateway to the Internet," the 23-page filing stated.
