"Oppenheimer" - Nolan's film about the "father" of the atomic bomb - won the most Critics' Choice Awards 2024, including Best Picture.
At the program held in Los Angeles on the morning of January 15 ( Hanoi time), the work won eight awards out of 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Director (Christopher Nolan), Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), Cast, Cinematography, Film Editing, Effects and Music.
Previously, the film was one of four films leading the nominations, competing with Barbie (18 nominations), Poor Things (13 nominations) and Killers of the Flower Moon with 12 nominations.
Oppenheimer, which cost $100 million to make, is considered by critics to be one of the best films of the year and a strong contender for an Oscar. On January 8, the film won five nominations at the 2024 Golden Globes, including the important award for Best Drama. Two days later, the film received four nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards), Hollywood's most important pre-Oscar awards.
The film is adapted from the biography American Prometheus, written by Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin, and revolves around the life and work of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy), who led the Manhattan Project to produce nuclear weapons.
According to statistics from the international box office monitoring unit Box Office Mojo, Oppenheimer's revenue is the third highest this year (over $950 million). The work has the third highest ticket sales of Nolan's 12 works, surpassing Saving Private Ryan (1998), directed by Steven Spielberg, to become the highest-grossing World War II film of all time, according to Variety. The R-rated film (not suitable for people under 17) has the second highest revenue of all time, after Joker (2019).

The Bear won four awards, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Meanwhile, Beef won Best Limited Series. The series' cast - Steven Yeun and Ali Wong - won Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.
During the event, actor Harrison Ford was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. America Ferrera received the SeeHer Award - honoring actresses who advocate for gender equality and have made breakthrough performances on screen.
The Critics' Choice Awards are chosen by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which includes critics from nearly 200 television and radio stations in the United States and Canada, and were first held in 1995. Last year, Everything Everywhere All at Once was honored in the category of Outstanding Film.
