Strengthening cooperation with the Bulgarian Atomic Energy Association

On October 23, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrovietnam Le Manh Hung had a talk with Mr. Bogomil Manchev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Atomic Energy Association (BULATOM).

Petrovietnam and BULATOM leaders agreed that nuclear power is a stable, high-efficiency, low-emission source of electricity, playing an important role in ensuring long-term energy security.

Petrovietnam expands strategic cooperation potential

Recognizing energy as a strategic cooperation field, as affirmed in the Declaration on upgrading Vietnam - Bulgaria relations to Strategic Partnership during President Rumen Radev's visit to Vietnam in 2024, at the working session with Mr. Hristo Aleksiev, Secretary of the President of Bulgaria, Petrovietnam leaders proposed cooperation with Bulgarian partners in the following contents: building a comprehensive energy management model; training and developing human resources in the field of nuclear energy; cooperation in scientific research on atomic energy and rare earths; exchange of experienced experts in the field of nuclear power.

Expanding cooperation opportunities in energy, industry and fertilizer

Speaking at the Vietnam - Bulgaria Business Forum, Petrovietnam leaders said that expanding cooperation with Bulgarian enterprises not only in the energy sector but also in supporting industries, equipment manufacturing, fertilizer production and "green" hydrogen, is in line with the development orientation of the Group's three strategic pillars: energy - industry - services.

Petrovietnam wishes to work with Bulgarian partners to research, invest and transfer technology in developing clean energy, nuclear power, hydrogen production and green fertilizers, towards the common goal of developing sustainable energy, balancing security - economy - environment.

Opening cooperation directions on industrial digitalization, VR/AR and HPC/AI training

At Sofia Tech Park (STP) headquarters, the Petrovietnam delegation worked with STP leaders and a number of technology businesses/communities.

At the meeting, STP introduced an overview of the technology ecosystem with key laboratories and supercomputer infrastructure serving big data - AI problems. Petrovietnam leaders shared about the Group's Science and Technology Strategy, Innovation and Digital Transformation, strategic technology products being researched and deployed, and AI/ML application problems at the Group and its member units to help ensure safety in operations and improve production and business efficiency.

The two sides had a frank exchange and agreed on the initial cooperation direction on three priority content groups: Digital infrastructure - Digital twin & predictive analysis for field assets, linked to the maintenance and operation processes of the units; Operational and safety training using AR/VR, developing simulation modules according to specific scenarios of the oil and gas industry; HPC/AI workloads, exchanging infrastructure access mechanisms to test a number of priority simulation and AI problems.

The two sides agreed to maintain communication channels, assign technical contacts to continue reviewing requirements, preparing necessary data and procedures, and consider implementing small-scale trials (PoC) when conditions permit, ensuring compliance with regulations and bringing practical efficiency to Petrovietnam units.

The Petrovietnam delegation's working trip to Bulgaria took place in the context of Vietnam promoting energy transition, towards the goal of Net Zero by 2050. These meetings and exchanges have opened up specific and practical cooperation directions, contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Bulgaria and creating new momentum for industrial and energy cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.
