Allocating 5 billion VND to overcome riverbank erosion

Previously, Mr. Ho Xuan Hoe, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, said that the impact of floods and rains has caused increasing riverbank erosion in the province, posing a risk to the safety of people's lives and property as well as infrastructure in the area, especially in Hai Lang, Trieu Phong and Cam Lo districts.

Specifically, the Vinh Dinh River section through Van Hoa village, Trieu Hoa commune, Trieu Phong district has 3 dangerous landslide locations with a total length of about 1 km, directly affecting 22 households/62 people. The Vinh Dinh River bank through Hai Hung commune, Hai Lang district has 2 dangerous landslide locations with a total length of about 450 m, affecting 11 households/48 people.

The Nhung River bank through Mai Dan village, Hai Lam commune, Hai Lang district has 2 dangerous landslide locations with a total length of about 400 m, affecting 11 households/55 people. The Nhung River bank through Thuong Xa village, Hai Thuong commune, Hai Lang district has a landslide of about 200 m, close to the inter-village concrete road. In the coming time, if not promptly repaired, there is a risk of damaging the inter-village concrete road and causing unsafety for vehicles traveling through this area.

The bank of Hieu River through Truong Xa and Moc Duc villages, Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district has a dangerous landslide of about 350 m, some landslides have penetrated into the asphalt road surface from 0.5 - 1 m, directly affecting the houses of 6 households/30 people; endangering people and vehicles participating in traffic, affecting the safety of people's lives and property and infrastructure, residential land, production land, especially the only road connecting Cam Hieu - Cam Thuy communes serving production, daily life, rescue and relief for people in the North of Hieu River. In the coming time, if not promptly remedied, there is a risk of continuing to affect the houses of 13 households/65 people.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, although the specialized agencies and local authorities have had solutions in the past, the limited budget has only made it temporary. Therefore, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee consider directing and allocating 16.5 billion VND to urgently repair landslides on Vinh Dinh River, Nhung River and Hieu River.

However, the provincial Department of Finance said that with limited funding, it can only balance capital of 5 billion VND to fix serious locations with high risk of affecting people and essential infrastructure.
