Through review, Phan Thiet currently has 393 orphans, of which 262 are fatherless, 104 are motherless and 27 are both parentless. Although there are no orphans due to the Covid-19 epidemic, with high determination and unity as well as in conjunction with the implementation of the program “Millions of gifts to share love”, the emulation movement “Building Phan Thiet women of the new era”, the City Women's Union has launched the program “Godmother” in the entire Women's Union system, to sponsors and benefactors about the profound humanitarian meaning of the program.
Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Yen - President of the Women's Union of Phan Thiet City said: After the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the lives of members and women are extremely difficult. However, in order to carry out the function of caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and children, the Women's Union of Phan Thiet City at all levels has established a savings group to have a source of funding to implement the "Godmother" Program. After 5 years of implementation, the Union at all levels has sponsored 68 children, with a total support budget of nearly 600 million VND. Depending on the conditions of each Union facility and in many different ways such as rice support, cash, tuition fees... each child receives support from 100,000 - 500,000 VND/month. The time for children to be sponsored is mostly from 1 - 2 years, in some cases, there is a commitment to long-term support until adulthood. The support is carried out periodically every month, every quarter or tuition support once a year. To have funding to support the Association's facilities, it mobilizes from many sources. It can be from sponsors, philanthropists, savings, contributions from the executive committee...

One of the highlights of the program is the comprehensive care given to the children, not only physically but also mentally. Not only the godmothers but also the godfathers regularly visit, encourage, give gifts, support necessary necessities and provide psychological health care advice to the children. The children are guided in doing housework, given gifts on holidays and Tet and gifts on the first day of the new school year.
Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Dau - a member of the women's union of Tien Thanh commune said: The happiest thing for us is to see our children grow up every day, from children lacking in affection, they have become confident and achieved better academic results.
In addition, through the “Godmother” Program and associated with the theme “Safety for Women and Children”, the Association has established 18 groups with 207 members participating in the safety model for women and children to promote propaganda, mobilization, support, and help disadvantaged children to continue going to school or when there are incidents that directly affect the rights and legitimate interests of children.
With love and sharing, the sisters are becoming second mothers who always support orphans both materially and spiritually so that they can be steadfast in life. “Hopefully, the children will receive much love and sharing from the whole society. There will be many kind hearts and volunteer hearts that continue to connect loving arms to nurture and sponsor orphans, accompanying the Association in this meaningful and humane program,” said Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Yen.
