Phan Thiet is ablaze with gold!

My friend from Gia Lai came to Phan Thiet for a weekend getaway. We took a stroll from south of the Ca Ty River, then along Hung Vuong Street, and finally to Mui Ne. His first comment was: "The streets of Phan Thiet are ablaze with flowers, so beautiful!" Feeling pleased, I led him along the streets lined with yellow flowers. While driving him around, I explained: "Yellow flowers are being planted extensively in Phan Thiet. The yellow osaka blooms year-round, but its peak bloom is from March to May. When the yellow apricot blossoms are fading or the yellow chrysanthemums are about to wither, the osaka flowers burst into vibrant yellow on many streets in the new residential areas." Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, a worker at the Urban Environment and Sanitation Company, shared: “In recent years, urban green planters in Phan Thiet want the osaka yellow flowers to bloom abundantly during the Lunar New Year. A month beforehand, we prune the branches and leaves, so that during the three days of the traditional Tet holiday, the yellow apricot blossoms bloom profusely indoors, while on the streets, the osaka flowers spread their fragrance, their thin, bright yellow petals fluttering gently on the sidewalks…”

The Osaka flowers are ablaze with yellow along Vo Van Kiet Street.

Osaka trees, native to South Asia, thrive in sunlight, are drought-tolerant, and grow very quickly. Furthermore, they are not very tall, with wide canopies; their flowers hang down in clusters along the roadside, resembling shimmering "golden lanterns" in the early morning sun. Therefore, many new residential areas in Phan Thiet are planted with yellow osaka trees (also known as golden scorpion trees) to enhance the beauty, friendliness, and modernity of this tourist city.

Check in at the golden bellflowers blooming on Hung Vuong Street.

After more than two hours of sightseeing in Phan Thiet, my friend spent a lot of time admiring the yellow osaka flowers and golden bellflowers on the streets: Pham Hung, Truong Han Sieu, Dang Thai Mai, Vo Van Kiet, Nguyen Gia Tu, 19/4 Street… The bright yellow color of the osaka flowers truly captivated him. My friend said: “In the Central Highlands, this type of flower only grows in the sparse forests of Gia Lai, Kon Tum , and Dak Lak. Some people bring them back to plant in their gardens as ornamental plants during spring… but you don't see this type of tree on the streets…”

The streets of Phan Thiet are not only adorned with yellow osaka flowers but also with many other types of flowers such as: purple crape myrtle on Mau Than Street; white frangipani planted around Hoa Binh Park and Thanh Minh Pagoda; azaleas on Vo Nguyen Giap Street; and cassia flowers in Vo Van Kiet Park… However, yellow flowers still dominate the streets. Besides yellow osaka flowers, there are also yellow bellflowers (also known as golden wind chimes) blooming profusely at the corner of Ton Duc Thang and Hung Vuong streets. This flower has a bright yellow color; when it blooms, the leaves gradually fall off, leaving only the flowers on the branches, creating a stunning sight from afar. The vibrant colors of these street flowers truly bring romance and poetry to the tourist city of Phan Thiet, creating a unique and attractive beauty for visitors.
