On October 3, Culture Newspaper (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) launched the first 'Typical Non-Tobacco Hotels' Ranking program, 2025.

This is the first time Vietnam has organized a nationwide ranking specifically for the hotel sector, to honor pioneers in building a smoke-free service environment, contributing to protecting public health and enhancing the image of civilized, safe and friendly Vietnamese tourism .

Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) assessed that the organization of the Non-Tobacco Hotel Ranking is in line with the development policy of the whole industry. The ranking, organized for the first time, will be a positive movement, a highlight of sustainable green tourism.

The program aims to find, select and honor outstanding hotels that have made efforts to build a smoke-free environment. Thereby, creating motivation for the entire industry to respond. In the long term, the program aims to form a widespread smoke-free hotel movement, contributing to protecting people's health, reducing the burden of medical costs, improving the quality of accommodation services and affirming the green-clean-beautiful Vietnamese tourism brand.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Vu - Editor-in-Chief of Van Hoa Newspaper said that the program does not stop at awarding titles and rankings but also affirms the right to live in a clean, smoke-free environment of all citizens; encourages smokers to reduce or quit the habit, and at the same time creates more peace of mind and trust for domestic and foreign tourists when choosing Vietnam.

The program is open to 3-star hotels and above nationwide. The registration documents include an application form, a self-assessment form based on the scoring criteria, a commitment letter and supporting documents.

The Organizing Committee has issued the rules and scoring criteria. Accordingly, hotels are evaluated on a 100-point scale, including the following criteria: Compliance with laws and regulations prohibiting smoking; facilities and arrangement of smoke-free areas; communication and customer guidance; management and monitoring mechanisms; good initiatives and models in maintaining a smoke-free environment; feedback and satisfaction of visitors. The selection is conducted publicly, transparently, with the right subjects, the right criteria, and under the close supervision of state management agencies and health experts.

The ranked hotels will receive a certification decision, a plaque recognizing “Typical Non-Smoking Hotel” in 2025 and will be widely promoted on the media of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Culture Newspaper, National Tourism Administration, Vietnam Tourism Association as well as many central and local press agencies. This is an opportunity for hotels to affirm their reputation and brand, and at the same time demonstrate their social responsibility towards community health.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the country currently has nearly 15,000 hotels, of which more than 2,000 are 3-star or higher. This is a great potential for the tourism industry to improve service quality and welcome international tourists to Vietnam. The fact that many hotels proactively respond and participate in the rankings will contribute to enhancing value, building brands, creating a unique mark for Vietnamese hotels, and at the same time connecting with the national green tourism brand./.
